Australiaās lowest cost electric car has seen a price jump to kickstart 2025, adding thousands to what has been the third best selling EV in 2024.
The MG4ās Excite variant now starts at $34,990 driveway, up from the December pricing of $32,990.Ā
At the same time, MG4 Excite 64 and other variants with factory bonuses are now back to their standard recommended retail prices.
The factory bonus of up to $8,000 on offer applies to Essence 64 and Long Range 77, as well as the dual-motor hot-hatch X-Power.
Prices of these models in NSW are now listed from $45,137 driveaway for the Excite 64 all the way up to $59,791 driveaway for the X-Power.
The MG4 Excite 51 comes with a few key features, including:
- Up to a driving range of 350km (WLTP) from a 51 kWh Lithium-Iron-Phosphate (LFP) battery
- 0-100km/h in just 7.7 seconds
- Apple CarPlayĀ® & Android AutoĀ®
- 50:50 weight distribution
- Rear-wheel drive
- Vehicle to load (V2L)
- 5-Star ANCAP Safety rating
In the first 11 months of the year, MG4 has been the brandās best-selling EV, with 2024 sales of over 6,000 cars, helping the car get to the third spot for year-to-date EV sales in November.Ā
Nearly a quarter of these sales happened in just one month when in October, the Excite 51 variant saw an all time low new EV pricing of $30,990 driveaway.Ā
This amounted to 1,486 sales, which pushed the MG4 to sell Tesla as a brand in that very month.Ā Since then, prices have gradually been increasing with January marking the highest point for the base variant.
MG4ās main competitor, the GWM Ora also saw multiple price cuts in 2024 with the entry level now becoming the cheapest EV in the market.
The Ora standard range is currently priced from $33,990 driveaway, highlighting a saving of $2,000 over the previous price.
With a new year kicking off and plenty of competition heading locally, it’d be interesting to see if the pricing of the multi-award-winning MG4 remains at these levels. The latest pricing on the Excite 51 variant is effective until 31 January 2025.
