Tesla’s new six-seater Model Y L is now available to order on Tesla’s Australian configurator, with almost 14 per cent more range than any other Model Y variant, and more space for the family in a longer three-row SUV setup.

Most importantly, pricing for the new variant of Australia’s best selling EV starts at $74,900 before on-roads, well below what many were expecting and making it the most affordable three-row electric SUV that offers more than 5 seats.

It is also the first Tesla EV in Australia to feature Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) technology, with a 3.3 kW discharge rate, and comes with a large Nickel-Manganese-Cobalt (NMC) battery pack capable of delivering a whopping 681 km of range on 19-inch wheels.

That’s over 13% more range than the current Dual-Motor Long Range model on sale in Australia, making it the longest range Model Y to date.

The powertrain will feature an all-wheel-drive setup with up to 378 kW of power and 590 Nm of torque. It helps accelerate the large SUV from 0-100 km/h in 5 seconds and reaches a top speed of 201 km/h.

On top of that, the car is one of the safest family SUVs on the market, with a 5-star ANCAP rating ahead of local arrival.

This model will also pack Tesla’s premium audio system with 18 speakers and a subwoofer, more than any other Model Y variant, which has 15 speakers on the Long Range and Performance variants.

Locally, the car will be offered in five paint colour options and one interior option:

  • Diamond Black – $1,500
  • Glacier Blue – $1,500
  • Stealth Grey – $1,900
  • Cosmic Silver – $2,600
  • Ultra Red – $2,600
  • Interior Trim: Zen Grey – $1,500

The latest Model Y variant is available to order now on Tesla Australia’s configurator with first customer deliveries expected in Q2 2026.

In August last year, Tesla launched the new six-seater Model Y L in China, with huge uptake from local buyers looking for a spacious 6-seater family electric SUV from the brand.

The car comes equipped with a new seating configuration compared to the standard Model Y, which was refreshed earlier in 2025.

Inside the Model Y L, drivers have adjustable headrests for the front seats, providing greater comfort for the driver and front passenger.

In the second row is where it features two “captain’s chairs” with retractable armrests, which provide more space than the standard Model Y.

These armrests can be controlled via the rear seat screen or a button on the side of the seat cushion and are unique to the Model Y L.

Having reviewed the car in Guangzhou, China, in December last year, it’s quite a good design, and I can see how families wanting more space and tech could really feel at home, as it makes access to the third row easier with the armrest down.

In the rear, there is also a third row with two seats and cup holders on either side, providing reasonable space for third-row passengers.

The second and third-row seats in the Model Y L can also be folded down using buttons in the boot, delivering over 2,530 litres of boot space, which is fairly large in the mid-size SUV segment.

This is also thanks to the car’s extended wheelbase, which is 177 mm longer than that of a standard Model Y, bringing the car’s length to almost 5 metres.

On the road, the Model Y L comes with continuously variable dampers found in the Model 3 and Model Y Performance variants.

We look forward to testing the car on local roads in the coming months and seeing how Tesla’s most spacious, practical, and longest-range SUV stacks up against much more expensive family electric SUVs.
