Chinese EV brand Zeekr, which recently celebrated its 10,000th delivery in Australia, has revealed that its very popular 7X electric SUV model is about to get a boost in range with a bigger, ultra-fast charging battery in the base model of the car in its home market.
The base variant, which currently comes equipped with a 75 kWh battery pack and fast-charging speeds of over 450 kW, will be replaced with a larger 85 kWh battery pack in China, according to reports from Zeekr officials and covered by CNC.
Zeekr officials have mentioned that the new 2027 model will come with a Geely-developed Aegis Golden Brick battery, with a reported life expectancy of 1 million km and 3,500 charge cycles.
This pack will also deliver more range than the current entry rear-wheel-drive (RWD) version, which starts at $57,900 before on-road costs and delivers up to 480 km of WLTP driving range in Australia.
That means that we can expect the new range to be over 530 km on the WLTP cycle for the same RWD variant.
Thatās from the previously mentioned 75 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) Golden Brick battery, which has been developed in-house by Zeekr engineers.
Thatās based on an 800-volt battery architecture, allowing 10-80% charging times of under 16 minutes at the right charger. All 7X variants of the 7X also include 22 kW AC charging capability.
For those that currently want longer range, can opt for the Long Range RWD version which ups the range to up to 615 km thanks to a larger 100 kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) battery pack.
There is also a Performance AWD model and the most recently launched Black Edition, which deliver 475 kW of power and 710 Nm of torque, allowing the SUV to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 3.8 seconds while delivering more than 540 km of WLTP range.
All 7X models also include vehicle-to-load (V2L) with a 3.3 kW output. This model has seen over 10,000 local sales since launching locally, just over a year ago.
Zeekr currently offers the small electric SUV, the X, a luxury people mover, the 009 and the 7X mid-sized SUV but plans to expand its lineup in Australia later this year after revealing key specs of its upcoming wagon, the 7GT.
That model is expected to land with up to 500 kW of power and 0-100 km/h sprint time of 3.5 seconds. Itās also expected to feature similar battery packs to those offered on the 7X, allowing a range of up to 655 km.
With strong popularity of the brand that has consistently delivered over 2,000 cars every month in recent times, an upgrade to the entry level variant of its most popular model, the 7X is worth keeping an eye on, as it could very well make it to international markets in the near future.
