Polestar, the Swedish-based electric car brand, has announced the entry-level variant of its first electric SUV offering in Australia, the Polestar 3, delivering up to 700 km in range.
Starting at $118,420 before on-roads, the new single-motor MY25 variant comes in at some $14,480 under the previously launched MY24 dual-motor long range variant. You can see our review of those variants here.
The MY25 Polestar 3 line-up now has three variants, including:
This new variant offers 72 more km in range, up from 628 km, for buyers looking at getting into Polestar’s large luxury electric SUV. That’s thanks to using the same large 111 kWh Nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) battery pack.
The new range from this variant makes it one of the longest-travelling SUVs on the market with every full charge.
“The Polestar 3 Long range Single motor pushes the boundaries of luxury and performance, all while delivering up to 700 kms in range. It’s a great achievement for a large and spacious SUV, making EVs easier to own and more exciting to drive,” Polestar Australia managing director, Scott Maynard says.
When it comes to charging this long-range model, the new model can be charged from 10-80% in 30 minutes, thanks to the 250 kW DC charging available with the model.
On the powertrain front, the single-motor variant produces 220 kW of power and 490 Nm of torque. This helps propel the car from 0-100 km/h in 7.8 seconds which is respectable for a 4,900 mm long vehicle.
On the road, the ride comfort is enhanced with the use of a passive damper system that utilises Hydraulic Rebound Stops (HRS) and Frequency Selective Damping (FSD). This helps the entry-level variant with the dynamic performance felt when driving the dual-motor long-range variants.
Efficiency-wise, the Polestar 3 single-motor energy consumption is rated at 16.5-18.9 kWh/100 km, based on data from EVDB.
To complement the performance, Polestar has equipped the single-motor variant with the same Brembo braking system found in the dual-motor variant.
Staying on the outside, other notable features of this model include:
Moving onto the inside, the Polestar 3 uses sustainable and responsibly sourced materials for the interior. Features on the inside include:
Buyers of the new large SUV have the option of six paint colours and six interior colours along with 4 wheel options. Deliveries of the new single-motor Polestar 3 are expected to start in early 2025.
This new variant is likely to bring luxury SUV buyers to the Polestar brand as it delivers on quite a few of the features usually found in ICE vehicles from other premium brands. We look forward to testing it when it becomes available in early 2025.

Sure does read like a nice car, however, at the asking price, it should be.
Paying over 100K for a car, kinda places it outside the normal family budget.
Presents great....but VERY pricey.
If your name is Porsche you can charge that price.
Polestar is a nobody - watch the price get slashed by ten$ of thousand$ as they get knocked down to reality
Kia and Hyundai charge over 100K too for their top models e.g. EV6 GT, Ioniq 5N, EV9. Genesis GV60 too. But I agree with Vic here. Polestar doesn't have the cache like Porsche or Audi etc.
Honestly this is probably too complex a discussion for the comments section on an article, but it seems to me like Polestar is still trying to charge prices as if it's a European prestige brand with serious Volvo history behind it, when most people are more accurately clocking it as a post-Geely acquisition spin-off.
The average buyer trusts the main Korean and Japanese brands a lot more than Chinese and European car brands at almost every price tier (right now), and despite that depending on local market conditions the prices on the latest Toyota, Lexus, and Nissan EVs get cut down very quickly. Even the renownedly high quality Hyundai group EVs can meet a harsh reality check in pretty short order. When that's happening with the EVs from big, trusted brands, I honestly don't know what Polestar is expecting as a relative unknown.
So, all guilty of gouging?
Well the EV9 sells about 40 cars a month so no one is falling over themselves to buy it. The figures for the Ioniq 5n can't be better.
The EV9 is cheaper in the US.
I expect that's why no one is buying these cars. They are at a minimum $20k too expensive.
Gets worse for the German brands.
Why does the media insist on calling Polestar "Sweden-based" when it's owned by Volvo which is owned by Geely? Who's trying to hide that it's another Chinese owned company?
Hi.
Polestar has headquarters in Sweden, plus some engineering, manufacturing contracted to Geely.
Cars currently sourced from China, New manufacturing being built in US, then South Korea.
Volvo's stake has recently been reduced and Geeley has taken large %.
Volvo reduced stake in Polestar as it was draining resources. There future will depend on how well the new products are received , how sales go and how long Geeley will continue to fund them. Could not find total ownership data!
'Made in China' used to mean cheap tat. Now it's expensive tat. (Hello Apple, Tesla etc etc)
Same thing happened with Japanese products.
Weird. The search for cheap labour continues.
Expensive labour
Cheap labour
Robots (not cheap)
Most of the waste is in the bloated middle management.
My Japanese car was made in Thailand. I bought a Fender guitar in the 70s. American icon. Made in Japan.
Guys why would I buy this Chink rubbish.
I can buy a Lexus and save money.
No 1 on JD Power again .
The electrics don't Even rate industry average.
Priced at a luxury vehicle price but a go cart product.
They going down the drain according to financials
This is a joke.
Its always five o'clock somewhere. Maybe it's April the first somewhere else?
I’ve been looking to get my 1st EV and recently started loaning EV cars on trips to see what’s the difference between the Brands and what suits my life style. Polestar 2 is not the best and definitely not the most luxurious. The entry level on most EV cars are normally justified by the different ranges it comes with but I can not justify 100k+ for any of Polestar vehicles. The polestar 2 battery was draining more quickly than the fuel gauge.
The comment section makes me wana vomit. Soo many know it all red necks.
Comparing the price of polestar 3 with porsche, not even knowing the prices of porsche cars. Sooo so stupid.
Complaining that the price is over 100k, admitting that some KIAs and hyundais are also over 100 K, so not luxury brands, and still complaining that polestar is over 100 K, cognitive dissonance much?
Comparing a premium brand to a go cart,... Nuff said.
You got me there cobber.
I searched in vain for your definition of 'luxury' 'premium'
Entry level for millionaires… apart from that, nice.
