Chinese EV maker Nio is widely known for their battery swapping technology, enabling their vehicles to drive into their swapping stations and drive out with a full battery in under 5 minutes, although there are no swapping stations in Australia. Government filing documents recently confirmed the Firefly small hatchback has been approved for sale here, a process that typically occurs several months before a car goes on sale.
Two variants of the Firefly have been approved, both sharing the same rear-wheel drive powertrain and 42 kWh LFP battery pack. Pricing under $40,000 is expected, with full details to be revealed closer to Nio launching in Australia during early 2026.
| Variant | Starting price | Driving range | Battery size |
