BYD, one of the worldās fastest-growing car companies, has warned of tight supply output for its EV batteries, mostly because of the huge success of its new models and the popularly of its battery tech.
The companyās most recent battery development is the 5-minute Flash Charging, thanks to a new Blade Battery, which will be used in dozens of models in 2026, as part of a serious push from the brand to make EV charging faster than refuelling a car.
Now, just over two months after the original announcement, the companyās Chairman and President, Wang Chuanfu, has hinted that the new Blade Batteryās supply is currently tight, with the brand looking to ramp it up massively in the coming months.
According to reports by CNC, Chuanfu shared this at the Yangwang Business Research Institute conference held last week, as multiple models from the companyās BYD, Denza, Fangchengbao and Yangwang brands see a production ramp-up, driven by huge demand.
An example of this is BYDās Datang, the brandās largest electric vehicle to date, which secured more than 30,000 pre-orders in the first 24 hours of its launch, late last month, around the Auto China 2026 show in Beijing.
That order count has now risen to over 100,000, which is pretty impressive given that the model, packed with luxury features, has a starting price equivalent of just over $A51,000.

Similarly, even cheaper models will be featuring this battery and tech, with the ride-share friendly e7 sedan having a new edition that also features the companyās 5-minute Flash Charging tech and all for under $A22,600.
More recently, the latest version of the Yuan Plus SUV, which the locally available Atto 3 was previously based on, was unveiled at Auto China 2026 in Beijing, also with this tech and a new 57.5 kWh LFP Blade Battery in the entry-level model.
This new Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery pack has been developed by the company and keeps the safety credentials of BYDās Blade Battery tech. At the same time, it now incorporates charging speeds of up to 1,500 kW.
That means a 10-70% charge can be completed in just 5 minutes, while a 10-97% charge can be completed in around 9 minutes.

The Flash Charging sites are being deployed at a rapid pace. Recent data showed that the company had surpassed over 25% of its 2026 rollout goal of 20,000 Flash Charger deployments, with almost 6,000 sites in operation as of April 2026.Ā
These sites span over 310 cities in China with plans to go global later in 2026, including here in Australia as part of the Denza Z9 GT launch in the second half of this year.
With such a massive push for the brand to get dozens of new models with the latest Blade Battery tech to hundreds of thousands of customers, the current tight supply will improve rapidly, ensuring the drivers get to experience this tech over the next 12 months.
