An Australian Tesla driver says he has clocked up 600,000 miles in his Model S 75D electric sedan, with just one change of battery (under warranty), and just one change of brake pads.
“Today, at just over 8 years of ownership.Six hundred thousand miles,” Byron Bay-based limousine driver Nigel Raynard wrote in a post on X.
“Changed bake pads once. Upgraded to 90 kWh pack after error at 666,666 km under warranty.
“Drives like new. Best car I’ve ever owned. And people are still discussing the benefits of a Tesla, get with the program later adopters!”
The 600,000 mile milestone will soon be bettered by the one million kilometre milestone – but Raynard has also completed the equivalent of 2.5 trips to the moon, or 24 times around the world.
Reynard says that he obtains between 50,000 km and 75,000 km per tyre set – that still makes a lot of changes in eight years – and has achieved an efficiency of 186 Wh/km since the battery replacement and rest.
The fact that Raynard has only needed to change his brake pads once is testimony to the efficiency and efficacy of regeneration in Tesla vehicles – it means rarely needing to apply the brakes.
Even better, his Tesla estimates that he has saved nearly $100,000 in fuel costs over that time.
We have reported on many of his milestones, including reaching 800,000 kms last year. The Driven first reported on his achievements in July, 2021, when the odometer on his Model S passed the 400,000 km mark, already a huge milestone with the original brake pads lasting much longer than most ICE vehicles. In 2024, we noted that he had reached 700,000 kms.
