Geely EX2 electric hatchback to start at $A19,000 in key right hand drive market

China car giant Geely launched its own brand in the Australian market earlier this year with the EX5 SUV and starting prices of $40,990. At the time, we called it the king of premium value EVs, having spent a bit of time with it testing on Australian roads.

Now, the company has launched its second affordable electric model, in the key right-hand-drive market of Thailand, with prices starting at the equivalent of $A19,000.

The Geely EX2, which is currently available as Geely Xungyuan in the Chinese market and is also the best-selling car this year in the world’s biggest market, comes in two variants.

These are the Pro trim and the Max trim, which makes it easy for buyers to choose from, similar to what we have seen withthe EX5 in our local market.

Both variants in Thailand come equipped with a larger 40.16 kWh CATL-supplied lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery packs.

This pack delivers an NEDC range of 395 km, which is likely to be closer to 320 km on the WLTP cycle. AC charging of 6.6 kW is available on both variants, while fast charging at 70 kW is also available, with 30-80% charging can be done in just 21 minutes.

When it comes to powertrain, the EX2 has a more powerful 85 kW motor on offer in both Thai-bound variants, which can accelerate from 0-50 km/h in just 3.9 seconds.

This motor can help get the car to top speeds of 135 km/h, which is plenty for city and suburban driving.

On the inside, this model still features one of the biggest infotainment screens in its class. A 14.6-inch screen powered by Flyme, which is a similar system found in the locally delivered Geely EX5 SUV.

The Geely EX2 will be available in four colours, keeping the options for buyers fairly streamlined in line with other Geely models. These include White, Grey, Silver and Beige.

This model will also come backed with a 6-year or 160,000 km warranty on the vehicle, while the battery is covered by an 8-year or 180,000 km warranty.

Geely launched the Geome Xingyuan in the third quarter of 2024. In May 2025, just after 8 months of its launch, the brand announced that it had over 200,000 units roll off the production line.

This model’s popularity has helped it climb the sales charts, outdoing the BYD Seagull, also known as the Atto 1 in Australia, and the Tesla Model Y.

So far in 2025, this model has sold over 400,000 EVs in the first 11 months.

With Geely launching its next model in Thailand, it could also be on the cards for other right-hand-drive markets in 2026, which we will keep an eye out for, given the affordability factor it brings to the EV market.
