BYD lifts cashback offer for its best-selling EV to $4,000 as it battles Tesla for top spot

BYD has been in a rapid growth phase in Australia this year, with its top EV selling model Sealion 7 leading the charts. In recent weeks, the company announced a $3,000 cashback offer to keep the sales momentum going.

Now, BYD has added another $1,000 to the existing cashback offer on the entry-level Premium variant, adding up to a total of $4,000, boosting its incentives as it battles with Tesla for the top spot in electric brand sales in Australia.

In an email received by the company’s subscriber base, BYD Australia shared this offer: “For a limited time, we’ve added a $1,000 Bonus Cashback on top of our existing $3,000 Cashback, giving you a total of $4,000 Cashback exclusively on the BYD Sealion 7 Premium.”

This offer is valid for buyers who purchase the vehicle by 14 December and take delivery by 31 December 2025.

In February 2025, BYD launched the Sealion 7 SUV, which has now climbed the sales charts into the top two best-selling EVs in the country this year.

The BYD Sealion 7 comes in two variants, Premium and Performance, with prices starting at $54,990 for the entry-level model. The top-spec performance variant bumps up to $63,990 before on-road costs.

The entry-level Sealion 7 Premium is powered by a single 230 kW rear-mounted motor, which delivers a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 6.7 seconds.

Both Sealion 7 variants are equipped with an 82.56 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) BYD blade battery pack, which can be charged at speeds up to 150 kW when DC charging.

There is also an on-board 11 kW AC charger for three-phase charging, an upgrade over previous models which only offered 7 kW single-phase charging.

The large battery pack offers a range of 482 km on the Premium model.

On the inside, there is a 15.6-inch infotainment screen, which also features Android Auto and Apple CarPlay as standard.

On top of that, there is a premium 12-speaker Dynaudio sound system for an immersive sound experience.

This SUV model is available in four colours, with only white available free of charge to customers. Other popular colours such as Atlantis Grey and Cosmos Black see a pricing of $1,500, while the Shark Grey costs up to $2,000.

We look forward to tracking BYD’s Sealion 7 sales off the back of the latest incentive, geared to move the company’s stock at hand and ensuring a big finish to the year for BYD as the company aims for close to 50,000 deliveries.
