Tesla is Australia’s best-selling EV brand, driven by the technology and ownership experience the company’s products deliver to its customers. But one feature common to other EVs has been missing, to the frustration of many of its owners – and that’s vehicle-to-load (V2L).
That’s about to change with Tesla that teasing the feature might be coming to its new vehicles, starting with the recently launched Model Y Performance in the US.
Tesla’s official account on X shared the news in a reply regarding this technology on X and said: “New Model Y Performance offers Vehicle to Load (120V 20A AC) with Tesla Outlet Adapter”.
This got a lot of people excited since it’s been one of the most requested features, and it has made its debut on Tesla’s Cybertruck.
On the back of this, one excited owner said: “V2L is excellent for camping or construction work!”. Another added: “Great now I can hopefully power my mini starlink with just my car!”
Given how popular this feature is, it’s good that Tesla is adding it to its line up, with the Performance model being capable in the US using Tesla’s “Outlet Adapter”.
According to Tesla, this adapter will be included with the 2026 Model Y Performance vehicles in the US that use the North American Charging Standard (NACS).
It’s unclear at this stage if the upcoming Australian-delivered 2026 Tesla Model Y Performance vehicles, which are made in Germany.
V2L has been available in many EVs in the Australian market from various Chinese and Korean brands, including BYD, Geely, MG, Hyundai, Kia and others.
