Tesla is Australia’s best-selling EV brand, driven by the technology and ownership experience the company’s products deliver to its customers. But one feature common to other EVs has been missing, to the frustration of many of its owners – and that’s vehicle-to-load (V2L).

That’s about to change with Tesla that teasing the feature might be coming to its new vehicles, starting with the recently launched Model Y Performance in the US.

Tesla’s official account on X shared the news in a reply regarding this technology on X and said: ā€œNew Model Y Performance offers Vehicle to Load (120V 20A AC) with Tesla Outlet Adapterā€.

This got a lot of people excited since it’s been one of the most requested features, and it has made its debut on Tesla’s Cybertruck.

On the back of this, one excited owner said: ā€œV2L is excellent for camping or construction work!ā€. Another added: ā€œGreat now I can hopefully power my mini starlink with just my car!ā€

Given how popular this feature is, it’s good that Tesla is adding it to its line up, with the Performance model being capable in the US using Tesla’s ā€œOutlet Adapterā€.

According to Tesla, this adapter will be included with the 2026 Model Y Performance vehicles in the US that use the North American Charging Standard (NACS).

V2L has been available in many EVs in the Australian market from various Chinese Ā and Korean brands, including BYD, Geely, MG, Hyundai, Kia and others.
