Last month, Xpeng, one of the fastest-growing Chinese EV brands, released official pictures of its upcoming large luxury sedan, the P7, with more models to follow.
Now, within four weeks of that, the brand has launched another new model, this time an SUV, the all-new tech-driven G7, which, within an hour of launching, received over 10,000 orders.
The car is dubbed by the brand as the world’s first “Super AI car” as it contains a computer chip that Xpeng developed in-house and outperforms many high-end automotive grade chips, helping the car with smart-driving and other computing-driven features.
On the company’s Weibo page, it said: “The world’s first super AI car with L3 computing power – Xpeng G7 is here! It opens up a revolutionary new intelligent experience with leading computing power and creates a warm mobile harbor for young families.”
The family aimed SUV’s pricing starts at $A50,200, which is above the G6 SUV in China. Given it’s bigger size and latest tech, it’s expected to be positioned in that premium SUV space.
On the styling front, there is a full-width light-bar as also seen on the 2025 Xpeng G6, which is the successor to the model currently being delivered in Australia.
From the side angle, multiple design features pop out, including flush door handles on the large SUV.
The charge port is on the vehicle’s right-hand side, consistent with the Xpeng G6 sold in Australia. This is opposite side to that found on the very popular Tesla models which might make charging a bit more difficult at older Tesla superchargers found around the country.
On the sides, repeater cameras for autonomous and smart driving can be seen which has become pretty standard on Xpeng’s vehicles.
Moving toward the rear, the roof doesn’t slope as much as the G6, giving it a more conventional SUV look.
One other unique feature about the G7 is that unlike the G6, it comes with a useable frunk.
At the back of the car, there is also a full-width light bar with curved tail lights, giving it a unique look on the road.
On the battery front, it comes with two Lithium-Iron-Phosphate (LFP) battery packs, with pack sizes of 68.5 kWh to 81 kWh.
These are expected to deliver between 577 km and 702 km on the CLTC cycle. That’s likely to be 450 km to 580 km on the WLTP cycle used in Australia.
Powering the car will be a rear-mounted single motor which produces 218 kW of power, enough to get around town and on highways.
On the inside, the new G7 features a large 15.6-inch screen which is similar to the one found on the G6.
It removes the screen from behind the steering wheel, replacing it with a high-tech heads up display which will augment all the information usually seen on a screen.
The new Xpeng G7 is expected to begin deliveries in the coming weeks, adding another well-received product to Xpeng’s growing EV lineup.
This G7 is Xpeng’s next mid-sized SUV, showcasing the latest tech the brand has to offer. It also shows how the speed at which it’s moving compared to legacy manufacturers.
With the latest model’s launch, Xpeng is going from strength to strength, as it continues its global expansion with recent announcements of launching in the UK and other European markets. Locally in Australia, Xpeng officially launched in December last year.
According to new data from carloop, as of May, the brand has delivered just under 700 of the G6 SUVs, its first model in the market.
This new G7 is expected to be one of its top sellers this year, thanks to the latest technology, styling, and speed of delivery. We look forward to driving this car in the coming months to see how it compares to the current G6 SUV.
