Australia’s longest EV charging network continues to reach into more Western Australian communities, with the small town of Kojonup 256 kilometres south-east of Perth the latest to join the network.
Having reached the halfway mark of its expansion in January and reaching the historic gold mining town of Kalgoorlie-Boulder in March, the WA EV Network last week opened its latest electric vehicle (EV) fast charger in the town of Kojonup.
Located on Benn Parade near the Kojonup Swimming Pool and featuring a 150 kilowatt fast charger as well as a 22 kW back-up charger, the opening of this latest charging site completes the South West loop of the network – including fast chargers now live in Bunbury, Margaret River, Manjimup, Walpole, Albany, and Jerramungup.
“It’s great to see range anxiety become a thing of the past in our State’s South West,” said Reece Whitby, Western Australia’s minister for energy and climate action.
With the opening of the latest EV charging site, the WA EV Network has also now exceeded 15,000 charging sessions since the first site was opened in Geraldton a year ago.
Spanning more than 7,000 kilometres Kununurra in the north, to Esperance in the south, and Eucla to the east, the WA EV Network is being deployed by Western Australian power companies Synergy and Horizon Power.
“The WA EV Network is providing the backbone of EV charging infrastructure which is critical for driving confidence in people living in the regions to invest in EVs,” said Shelley Payne, member for Western Australia’s Agricultural Region.
“This charging station is perfectly situated between Perth and Albany, making it easier for EV drivers to explore our amazing south coast.
