The discount war in the electric vehicle market is intensifying, with Korea car maker Hyundai the latest to offer big incentives to buyers – following in the footpath of specialist EV makers Tesla, BYD and Polestar.
Tesla has announced several significant price reductions in the past year, while BYD and Polestar have also offered special deals – the latest coming from BYD just last week.
Hyundai is offering up to $10,500 of upgrades on its 2023 build Ioniq 6 electric sedan which comes in the form of a complementary upgrade if customers place an order between Friday November24 and Monday November 27, or Black Friday to Cyber Monday.
Customers who purchase a 2023 Ioniq 6 Dynamiq 2WD will be upgraded to a Techniq variant. The Techniq grade brings additional power, all-wheel drive, and an array of extra features and the upgrade is valued at $10,500.
Those customers who purchase a 2023 Ioniq 6 Techniq will be upgraded to the top-of-the-range Epiq variant. According to Hyundai, the 2023 Epiq variant features cutting-edge technology including Digital Side Mirrors and a battery conditioning system. This upgrade is valued at $5,288.
Around 600 Ioniq 6 vehicles are available across the country and these offers are only available on 2023 model year (MY) vehicles when ordered across the four-day period.
Since February, the brand has sold over 468 of these Ioniq 6 vehicles in the three trims it’s offered in.
The battery and motor setup on the single-motor Dynamiq variant can get range figures as high as 614 km while the dual-motor versions are still respectable at 519 km. All three variants are equipped with a 77.4 kWh battery pack.
Part of the efficiency of the vehicle comes from the aerodynamics of this sedan. The design of the car boasts a low coefficient of drag at around 0.22.
The Hyundai Ioniq 6 is based on the Electrified-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) that is also the basis of the very popular Ioniq 5 SUV and the EV6 from sister company Kia.
This platform can help charge the Ioniq 6 from 10-80% in 18 minutes at a 350 kW charger.
Earlier this month, the new 2024 model of the Ioniq 6 has also been announced which can be ordered online on Hyundai’s website. It will also feature a more affordable version with a starting price of $65,000 before on-roads.
New stock of the vehicles can be found on Hyundai’s new online Ioniq stock locator.
