Chinese car giant BYD has announced that it will be providing extra incentives to buyers in NSW looking at making the switch to a BYD EV ahead of rebates closing at the end of the year.
BYD plans to offer a $500 rebate ātop-upā on Australiaās third-best-selling EV, the Atto 3, bringing the total rebate amount to $3,500 off the purchase price.Ā
Luke Todd, the CEO of BYD’s Australian distributer EVDirect.com said it follows a similar move six months ago in Victoria when that state slashed its subsidy scheme with very little notice.
āJust as we did for Victorians before their government’s electric vehicle rebate ended on 30 June this year, it is important for us as a company to now rally for those in NSW ahead of the announcement that the rebate scheme will end on 31 December 2023,” Todd said.
Todd said many buyers are not aware of the EV rebates available in the NSW, nor that they are capped at 25,000.
“What we’ve uncovered, is that many prospective EV buyers are not aware that the NSW rebate in capped at 25,000 across the state since it was first announced,” he said.
“We expect purchasing activity to ramp up over the next six weeks as a result of its’ wind down, so we urge those considering going electric, to get in fast to avoid disappointment,”.
The new rebate applies to customers who are able to take advantage of the offer by placing an order and getting it delivered between 21st November and 31st December.Ā

During this period BYD will also provide a dedicated rebate team to help more customers in NSW obtain access to this offer. There will be rebate team staff members at the BYD Megastore in Alexandria along with supporting staff to process phone and online inquiries.
Over the last 15 months, since the first Atto 3 customer deliveries began, the brand has taken the Australian market by surprise and delivered more than 12,000 EVs from a single model.
BYD has now begun deliveries for the Dolphin hatchback model, with the Seal electric sedan to soon follow. Next year, two new models have been pencilled in for the Australian market.Ā
