Sixt to add over 500 BYD Atto 3 EVs to Australia car rental fleet, adds free charging

Global vehicle rental company Sixt has announced that its Australian operation will add more than 500 electric vehicles (EVs) from Chinese automaker BYD to its Australian fleet, offering a $90 a day rental and free charging.

The first 200 of the BYD Atto 3 EVs are due to arrive in Australia in April, and are part of its plans to transition at least half of its 16,000 Australian rental fleet in Australia to fully electric cars in coming years.

The rental offering also comes with an offer of free charging across the fast charging network of Sixt’s Australian partner NRMA, which owns the franchise in Australia, and through the Chargefox network. The Atto 3s will also be available for rent at $90 a day.

“Whether heading on a family road trip, a weekend away or a business trip, the BYD’s we will have in our fleet as early as April will make choosing an EV even more attractive for customers and corporates looking to save on fuel costs and minimise their footprint,” said Matthew Beattie, CEO of Sixt Austalia.

“The BYD Atto 3 is an exclusive offering with Sixt for anyone looking to rent one in Australia. They offer an uncompromising EV experience with a 400km manufacturer advertised charge range.

First deliveries to Australian customers of the BYD Atto 3 began in mid-2022 and has since gone on to become one of the more popular EVs to land on our shores. The Driven’s own Riz Akhtar took the Atto 3 for a test drive last year and said that the “BYD Atto 3” will change “the EV game in Australia”.
