Tesla Cybertruck body spotted in Texas, gearing up for production

One of Tesla’s most highly anticipated products, the Cybertruck, is getting closer to production. The body of the electric Cybertruck ute that will form the central part of its construction has been spotted at Tesla’s Texas Gigafactory months before production officially starts in mid-2023.

The new image of the Tesla Cybertruck body was originally seen on Kim Java Twitter page which shows large casting parts in the back of the truck. 

The body appears to have a coating applied to it. Reports of this sighting suggest that Tesla is using aluminium-casted components as well as steel for the frame of the Cybertruck.

This update comes three years since the Cybertruck was officially launched back in 2019. Deliveries at that stage were expected  by the end of 2021, but were delayed due to various reasons. This included the ramp-up of the Tesla Model Y which is now Tesla’s best-selling EV in many markets.

Earlier this year, Elon Musk confirmed that Tesla Cybertruck was going to be produced at Gigafactory Texas in 2023 as Tesla completes the development of its most “hardcore” product. 

With over 1.6 million reservations tallied according to a crowd-sourced Cybertruck reservations tracker, the Cybertruck is now one of the most sought-after vehicles ever built.

With the tough body structure and Cybertruck’s external body being made from cold-rolled stainless steel, it’s the most radical ute design ever to  move towards full commercial production.

The latest spotting of the Cybertruck body and details of the Tesla advertising for many Cubertruck job positions shows that Cybertruck production is only a few months away. 

Elon Musk also confirmed this on the last earnings call, describing the timing of the Cybertruck production timeline as being in its “final lap”. 

All signs seem to be heading in that direction with the latest drone footage from Joe Tegtmeyer revealing some interesting objects heading into the Texas Gigafactory’s casting area.

From all reports including Joe’s own, it appears to be parts of the 9,000 Tonne Gigapress from IDRA that will be used for Cybertruck body casting.

With a mid-2023 production date set for the Cybertruck, it’s unlikely that Australian order holders will be seeing their right-hand drive Cybertrucks delivered before 2025. If it can get approval for Australian roads.
