New data has revealed that electric vehicle uptake in NSW has seen a huge jump in the month of August, off the back of the introduction of the Model Y.

New data from carloop reveals that Tesla’s fleet in Australia’s most progressive EV state has risen by 18.1% in August 2022. In total 1,593 new Teslas were added to NSW fleet in the month, taking the Tesla fleet in the state to more than 10,000.

The latest monthly total is equivalent to the whole of the first quarter deliveries to NSW, and comes after production challenges faced by Tesla’s production factory in Shanghai.

The breakdown in the August data between the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y is currently not available but will be in the coming weeks.

White and Grey top Tesla colours in NSW

New data also shows that more than 53% of the new owners in August picked a white Tesla. That’s followed by grey that 17% of the new NSW delivered vehicles that owners picked up from Tesla delivery centres in the month of August.

Red was the least popular colour of all the Teslas delivered to NSW in August. This may be due to the $2,900 premium Australian customers pay when they place an order for a red multi-coat Tesla.

Used Tesla listings up by 400% since Model Y launch

New data also reveals that used Tesla Model 3 listings have reached a new high with nearly 500 EVs currently available on the used EV market across Australia. That’s an increase of 400% since the local launch of Model Y back in June 2022.

Thousands of Australian Tesla customers are expected to pick their Model Y RWD EVs over the coming months. Many have already done so in August as seen by the sharp new Tesla uptake in NSW for that month.Ā

This will help reduce the prices of used Teslas over the coming months as many more Model Y customers receive the good news of their new EVs. It also shows the improvement in high EV prices once much more supply reaches our shores.

Tesla uptake trend in NSW to continue as affordable options on the horizon

Tesla EV uptake trends in NSW are set to continue with the state’s generous EV subsidy scheme that commenced just over a year ago in 2021. Stamp duty has also been abolished for EVs up to $78,000 under the NSW EV purchase stamp duty incentives.Ā Ā

The demand remains high for EVs such as Tesla but more affordable EVs like the BYD Atto 3 which I recently test drove & the updated MG ZS EV are only around the corner too. All these models coming onto our roads will also accelerate the uptake of EVs in states like NSW and beyond.
