German luxury automaker Mercedes-Benz is recalling nearly 12,000 vehicles in China, including 660 EQS EVs, due to a variety of potential faults in the vehicles.
All totalled, Mercedes-Benz issued a recall for 11,908 of its vehicles through China’s State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR).
Amongst the thousands of cars being recalled are 660 imported EQS made between September 3, 2021, and November 25, 2021.
According to the filing with the SAMR, “The thread of the traction fixing points on the front and rear bumpers of some vehicles within the scope of this recall may not meet the specifications, resulting in the loosening of the traction fixing ring because the thread connection depth required for normal fixing may not be achieved, posing a safety hazard.”
Mercedes-Benz in China will inspect the threads of the traction anchor points for potentially affected vehicles free of charge through authorised dealers.
In the interim before the recall is due to take place, starting September 1, Mercedes-Benz has recommended “that users do not use the towing fixed point for vehicle towing operations.”
As one of the more expensive EVs around – selling in China with a price range between RMB 1074600 to RMB 1513600, and which sells in Australia from $A328,400 – the EQS was only launched in China earlier this year after a December 2021 launch.
Mercedes-Benz is also recalling a total of 11,212 imported GLE SUVs and GLS SUVs with production dates between October 28, 2018, and November 8, 2021, as well as 36 GLC SUVs with a production date between May 31, 2021, and June 13, 2021.
