Maserati has released the first teaser pictures of its first all-electric vehicle in the form of a Gran Turismo, showing a sleek beast that retains the proportions of the original model cruising the streets of Modena.
Having declared in late 2020 that it would electrify all its models by 2025, along with every new model from the Italian luxury brand, the Gran Turismo will also have a fully electric version.
The Italian brand has not yet announced any official technical information, but one thing is clear: the Gran Turismo will continue to bear the brand’s design DNA. However, we don’t expect this until 2022, and it reportedly bear a name recently put forward at the other end of the EV spectrum in the form of the electric Ford F-150: Folgore, which means “lightning”.
With a long bonnet and flowing roofline the electric Gran Turismo has a tear-off edge that tends slightly upward. There seems to be a big design difference in the headlights: in the old model, they pulled far into the front fenders. In the successor, they appear to be positioned exclusively on the front – similar to the previously presented MC20 super sports car.
Word is that the electric Maserati GT will be joined by an electric Gran Cabrio, but not before a new fossil-fuelled version is launched in 2022.
Both models are currently being developed in Modena and produced in the recently modernised factory in Turin, northern Italy.
