The tiny Mitsubishi i-MiEV was first released in Australia in 2010 and was discontinued in 2014 after proving unpopular here. Only around 250 vehicles were sold during this time, but it is now one of the cheapest fully electric cars available second hand. Apart from the standard passenger i-MiEV, a Minicab version was also made to cater for the small delivery van segment.
The i-MiEV features a rear-wheel drive power train coupled with a 16 kWh battery for up to 150 km NEDC or 100 – 120 km real world driving range when new. Second hand examples will have less range, although some EV repairers are able to fit replacement battery packs with 30 kWh capacity and 200 – 240 km driving range.
