Another sub-$35,000 small electric SUV gets sale approval for Australian market

Leapmotor, one of China’s fastest-growing EV brands, last November unveiled a new affordable small electric SUV called the A10, likely to compete with models like the popular BYD Atto 2.

The A10 has now been spotted – by Roland L from the Zapped Au YouTube channel on X – on the ROVER approval-for-sale register, offered in two powertrain options, a 130 kW FWD configuration and a 145 kW FWD configuration.

The smaller motor will be fed by a 39.8 kWh battery pack, while the bigger motor is expected to have a 53 kWh battery, according to the specs in the approval documentation.

The 4.27-metre-long SUV will be available with a height of 1.64 metres and a running clearance of 175 mm. 

The A10 will weigh around 1.55 tonnes, depending on the motor, battery and powertrain configurations, but only one weight spec was provided in the ROVER listing.

There is no towing capacity for the A10 SUV, with a braked towing mass of 0 kg listed in the ROVER approval.

Leapmotor B03X has been ADR Approved.

This latest model from Leapmotor made its debut at the Guangzhou Auto Show 2025, which at the time was its smallest SUV model so far, joining the larger C10 and the B10 electric SUVs, both of which are now available in Australia.

It is likely to compete with EVs such as the Atto 2, which was launched in Australia late last year, as well as the Ora 5, which also recently arrived on our shores.

Styling-wise, it reminds us of a smaller B10 SUV, which in our market starts at a pretty impressive driveaway price of $38,990.

Detailed specs and actual pricing will be announced later in 2026, but we can expect it to start at under $35,000 locally. Automotive giant Stellantis has a 50% stake in Leapmotor’s international expansion JV.
