EV market leader BYD has announced a major new cash-back offer for both the Premium and Performance variants of its top-selling electric car, the Sealion 7.
The Sealion 7 has accumulated more than 30,000 sales since launching in February last year, and is placed behind only the Tesla Model Y in the EV sales rankings with more than 17,000 sales in Australia this year.
The $4,000 cash-back offer is valid for buyers who purchase the vehicle by 21 December 2026 and take delivery by 31 December 2026.
BYD launched the Sealion 7 SUV in February last year and it comes in two variants, Premium and Performance, with prices starting at $54,990 for the entry-level model. The top-spec Performance variant rises to $63,990 before on-road costs.
The entry-level Sealion 7 Premium is powered by a single 230 kW rear-mounted motor, delivering 0-100 km/h in 6.7 seconds.
Both Sealion 7 variants are equipped with an 82.56 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) BYD blade battery pack, which can charge at up to 150 kW on DC charging.
They also have an on-board 11 kW AC charger for three-phase charging, which saves many owners time on charging at a three-phase charger.
This battery pack delivers a range of 482 km on the Premium model, which appears to be a good enough for many drivers using the car for daily commutes and occasional road trips.
Inside, both variants offer a 15.6-inch infotainment screen, with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay as standard. On top of that, it comes with a premium 12-speaker Dynaudio sound system for an immersive audio experience.
Globally, BYD sold more than 2.2 million battery-electric vehicles in 2025, ahead of Tesla, which delivered just under 1.7 million. The company also recorded strong export growth, underscoring its expansion beyond the increasingly competitive Chinese EV market.
BYD is aiming for Toyota in our market and, with recent monthly sales trends, will reach the second spot, overtaking Hyundai, Kia, Mazda and Ford by the end of this year.
With that ambition in mind, this year will likely see the brand crack 100,000 car sales, and with new models and volumes on the way, it will drive further local interest in the brand.
