Volvo EX60 makes its global debut, offering biggest battery and longest range

Volvo has unveiled its latest all-electric offering, the EX60 mid-size SUV, on a YouTube live stream, promising the biggest battery yet seen in a Volvo EV, and the longest range.

Coming with both a single motor rear-wheel-drive and a dual-motor all-wheel-drive powertrain, the EX60 will deliver over 810 km of range on a single charge, thanks to a big 117 kWh battery.

Charging this pack at the right DC charger can obtain up to 370 kW of charging speeds, helping add 340 km of range in just ten minutes. On top of that, charging from 10-80% comes in 18 minutes.

These charging speeds are reached thanks to the 800 V architecture, which is a first for any new Volvo so far and has a coefficient of drag of 0.26.

Other variants receive a smaller 83 kWh and 95 kWh battery capacity, respectively, delivering a good range for the powertrains they are paired with. The range on models with these battery packs is 620 km and 660 km on the WLTP cycle.

AC charging car specs are also great, with 22 kW available for those with three-phase power or at capable public AC chargers.

All models feature a structural battery pack design and are the first Volvos to use Megacasting technology.

On the performance front, the car can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds on the top spec AWD model, thanks to 500 kW of power and 790 Nm of torque.

The entry-level RWD model produces 275 kW of power and can do the same sprint in 5.9 seconds, which is still quite quick for a family SUV.Ā 

The mid-spec model delivers 375 kW of power and 710 Nm of torque and has a 0-100 km/h acceleration time between the other two of 4.6 seconds.Ā 

There is also an expected more rugged Cross Country variant to arrive later down the track, helping those wanting more ground clearance and adventure capabilities in the EX60.

For the standard models, air suspension is available, helping the car be lowered or increase its height when needed.

Styling-wise, the Volvo EX60 has a very European design, following some of the design cues from other cars in the Volvo lineup.

It features Thor-Hammer signature daytime running lights (DRLs) with the SUV having a slightly sloping roofline closer to the tailgate of the car. The rear tail lights appear to be inspired by the EX30 and do give that Volvo design vibe.

Moving inside, the interior is clean and minimalistic, as is the case across Volvo’s other electric offerings in Australia.

It features a screen behind the steering wheel as well as a large horizontal screen in the middle. This will be the first Volvo to feature Google’s Gemini AI assistant built in with solid integration with the car.

Also on the inside is a very airy feel, and the model also packs an electrochromic panoramic roof that can be adjusted to lower the amount of sunlight coming in.

Inside, a 28-speaker Bowers and Wilkins sound system is also available for those looking for a more immersive audio experience.

Although details around the local arrival are yet to be revealed, we expect this tech-focused SUV model to land in the second half of 2026.
