Nissan Australia has announced pricing and specifications of its next electric car in its local lineup, and released key details of its upcoming Ariya electric SUV.
More than two years after the Ariya was first displayed to the automotive media in Australia, at a driving track in the northern suburbs of Sydney, Nissan – which led the world with the lease of the Nissan Leaf more than a decade ago – is finally rolling out its second major model in Australia.
Starting with pricing, which surprisingly is lower than what could be expected from the brand that bought us the Leaf electric hatchback all those years ago.
The Nissan Ariya SUV comes in four variants, with pricing before on-road costs coming in at:
- Engage – $55,840
- Advance – $59,840
- Advance+ – $63,840
- Evolve e-4orce – $71,840
Nissan Australiaās deputy director of marketing and mobility, Warwick Daly said: āItās exciting to see Nissanās long history in the Australian electric vehicle space continue in the Ariya, which pairs incredible design, a clever and spacious interior, intelligent driving systems with advanced battery and motor technology to deliver a truly thrilling drive,ā.
Looking into the powertrains on offer for the almost 4.6 metre long SUV, the latest Nissan model will be coming with either a single-motor RWD variant or a dual-motor AWD model.
Feeding this powertrain will be two battery pack options, with the entry-level Engage and mid-spec Advance variants coming with a 63 kWh battery pack.
Along with that, the larger dual-motor AWD Advance+ and Evolve variants receive the larger 87 kWh battery pack.
When it comes to the range, the smaller battery delivers up to 385 km of WLTP range while the larger battery can get the car to 504 km in the single-motor Advance+ variant.
On the charging tech front, the Ariya can get from 10-80% in around just over 35 minutes for the and the Advance+ and Evolve variants also feature up to 22 kW AC charging.
These batteries feed a powertrain which delivers up to 160 kW of power in the two entry level variants. A 0-100 km/h time of around 8 seconds is expected from this setup.
The Advance+ variant has a larger 178 kW motor which helps improve its acceleration, helping it get the 0-100 km/h sprint time of around 8.1 seconds.
The top-spec Evolve features a 320 kW AWD powertrain, which can help the car accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 5.6 seconds. This is on the quicker end when it comes to mid-size SUVs and will make it quite zippy around town.
The Evolve variant is also unique for Nissan, given it will be the first AWD electric model from the brand in our local market, since the Leaf hatchback was only ever offered locally with a single motor powertrain.
This dual-motor setup also helps with towing, and the Ariya Evolve AWD will have up to 1,500 kg of braked towing, up from 750 kg on the other variants.
All models will be available later this year with a 12.3-inch infotainment screen, as well as a 12.5-inch driver screen. The Ariya will also come equipped with Wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto.
When it comes to audio and sound, the entry-level model features 6 speakers, while the remaining variants will have a 10-speaker Bose sound system, which aims to deliver a nicer sound experience for drivers and occupants.
Two interior colour options are available, with black featured in all variants apart from the Evolve, which features blue nappa leather for seats.
The Nissan Ariya will come with a long ten-year 300,000 km warranty when serviced by a Nissan dealer network across the country.
This SUV is expected to go on sale in early September, and interested buyers can place orders for the car via Nissanās website today or by visiting a local dealer.
We look forward to getting behind the wheel of them to see what one of the pioneering EV brands in Australia has to offer drivers in 2025 and beyond.
