The organisers of the Everything Electric show in Sydney last weekend have claimed a “watershed moment” for the EV industry in Australia, after a record 31,069 attendees turned up over three days, and 6,402 test drives were completed.
It was the third annual Everything Electric show in Sydney, and it will have a second Australian show in Melbourne in November. It also holds events in the UK, Canada, the US and Europe.
The Sydney show broke records, with more than 35 EV manufacturers displaying their vehicles on site, and a total of 120 participants showcasing other home and transport technologies.
“Everything Elecrics gave the lie to those that cast doubt on consumer interest in electric vehicles, as the show ‘caught fire’ on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at the Sydney Showground,” Dan Caesar, the CEO of Fully Charged, which is behind the show, said in a statement.
“Even though we’ve been delivering these shows for the best part of a decade, and all over the world, this felt like the watershed moment we’ve been waiting for.
The beginning of ‘early mainstream’ uptake of EVs, as the cost savings – which Australia’s EVC estimates as $3,000 per annum and $11,200 over total ownership per car – becomes clear.
“The influx of newer car makers, with incredibly compelling tech-laden cars, is also having a huge influence on buying behaviours.”
The Everything Electric Show will return to Sydney next March, and will expand its non EV showcase as well as the cars.
“Evidence shows that once consumers go electric, more than 9 out of 10 never go back, and they then start to investigate other electrification options,” Caeser said.
“As a show that offers ‘everything electric’ – including energy tariffs, home chargers, away-from-home charging providers, boards, bikes, motorbikes, boats, utes, vans and even trucks – the array of visitor attractions brings in a bigger and bigger number of relevant consumers.
“And we haven’t even mentioned the most exciting aspect for Australian’s the bidirectional bonanza that vehicle to grid will bring.”
