BYD’s Shark 6 ute has been one of the most successful products to hit Australia in recent years, seeing over 2,000 sales in the first two months of the year – making it one of the best selling utes in the country.
Now, spy shots out of China reveal another sleeker ute from the company that is under development. The heavily camouflaged vehicle was spotted on the top of a vehicle transporter truck by enthusiasts, before being reshared by Thinkercar on X.
Although the rear of the ute looks similar to that of the Shark 6, albeit with a beefier rear tray design, the front is where some key differences are noticed.
One major change is the rounded headlight design that are similar to ICE utes like the Mazda BT50, sold locally in Australia.
These lights appear to be angled in a way that reminds us of the much smaller compact electric car from BYD, the Seagull which is also known as the Dolphin Mini.
Another key difference is the front windshield area, which appears to be slightly less angled than the Shark 6.

BYD launched the Shark 6 at the end of October 2024, with lower-than-expected pricing – $57,900.
Since then, the company has taken thousands of orders and shows a clear shift from diesel utes towards electrification.
In the first two months, BYD has sold over 2,000 units, helping the Shark 6 become the third most popular ute in Australian market.
Very little is known about this newly spotted ute and this sighting is one of the first times it has been spotted in the wild.
Given the popularity of utes in the Chinese market, this is expected to a model for the international markets.
