Geely’s upcoming electric SUV, the EX5, will feature multiple new technologies to win mid-sized electric SUV buyers.
The brand’s local arm has revealed that its first model will feature a theatre-like sound system and safety, thanks to the proprietary tech platform it developed in partnership with Chinese tech company Meizu.
This tech will be called Flyme Auto in the new EX5 and includes the car’s main infotainment, safety and sound systems, helping owners with a new in-car entertainment experience.

Owners of the upcoming model will have access to connected apps, streaming services and music streaming all in one system without needing to use a mobile phone for connected services.
Mr Li Lei, Head of Geely Auto Australia, said: “Geely’s long-standing dedication to software, technology and safety is strongly represented in the brand’s advanced Flyme systems.
In bringing the EX5 to the Australian market, the entire team at Geely Auto believe in the most sophisticated and reliable software to make living with the EX5 as easy and comfortable as possible”.
The infotainment screen is powered by an automotive-grade chip called the SE1000 which runs the software and systems inside the car. This chip has an 8-core CPU and 14-core GPU which is more powerful than chips found in many other EVs today.
Flyme Auto will also be able to deliver a theatre-like experience thanks to the 16-speaker sound system, including speakers found in the headrests of the front seats.
Staying on the tech offered in the EX5, a Geely app will make monitoring the status of the EX5 as well as controlling HVAC, windows, tailgate as well as other features.

Geely started delivering the model in China during the second half of 2024.
In November, the EX5 received approval to be sold in Australia, with a filing hinting multiple variants to be offered locally.
As of early December, over 60,000 units had been delivered to Chinese customers in under four months.
That’s out of a total of 2.17 million vehicles the brand sold globally during 2024.
Geely’s EX5 is a fairly spacious family electric SUV, coming in at 4,615 mm.
In China, two different battery packs are available with the first 49.52 kWh pack to deliver of 440 km of CLTC range. A bigger pack with 60.22 kWh delivers 530 km of NEDC range, which is expected to be in the mid-400 km of real-world WLTP range.
AC charging speeds of 11 kW is on offer or a DC fast charging at speeds of up to 100 kW will charge the car from 30-80% in 20 minutes.

We look forward to experiencing the Flyme Auto tech on local roads in the coming months ahead of its local launch in the first half of 2025.
Geely’s EX5 is expected to launch locally in the first half of 2025 with pricing and detailed specifications released closer to that time.
