Chinese carmaker Xpeng is on the verge of bringing in multiple electric car models to the Australian market in the coming months, with recent testing of its upcoming affordable electric SUV, the L03, reported earlier in the week in Australia.
Now, another new model has been spotted being tested in Australia, this time a larger electric SUV that the brand is likely to call the G9L, and which was photographed at a Tesla Supercharger site in Albury.
A picture of this SUV, showing a camouflage wrap on the vehicle, was taken by Alexis W, an EV enthusiast, before sharing it on X.
This picture shows the rear end of the car with a large light bar going from one end to another, along the width of the vehicle.
In recent weeks, this new model has surfaced in regulatory filings from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) in China, highlighting the expected powertrain.
According to that listing, the G9L is expected to be a 5.12 metre-long car, much longer than the current G6 SUV, which sits at 4.75 metres in length.
On the powertrain front, the five-seater will come in a dual-motor configuration with up to 430 kW of power on offer from both motors. This will help the car reach a top speed of 200 km/h.
As of now, it is not clear what the size of the battery might be but if Xpengās other big SUV, the recently launched GX, is anything to go by, it could likely be either a 91.9 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) pack or 110 kWh Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC) pack.
Inside, like Xpengās newer models, it could be equipped with Xpeng-developed Turing AI chips, offering up to 700 TOPS (Trillion Operations Per Second), as seen in the flagship GX SUV.
The latest sighting shows that Xpeng is working on a few new models for our market, following the recent release of the 2026 G6 SUV, with prices starting at $51,800 before on-road costs for the base variant. The top-end Performance Black Edition is available from $66,800 before on-road costs.
We will keep an eye out for more details on this model, as it could be one of the least expected models to land locally from the brand, given it is yet to even be launched in its home market of China.
