Chinese car maker Geely says it has already reached 20,000 deliveries of plug in electric cars in Australia, despite entering the local market just 18 months.
Geely has had three models on offer – the top-selling EX5 fully electric SUV, the newly released EX2, a smaller fully electric EV, and the Staray plug in hybrid.
The EX5 has already sold more than 13,000 units so far, making it one of the best selling EVs in the market, while the EX2 – the company’s best selling car in international markets – has sold 474 in its first month. The rest of the sales are from the PHEV model.

The company says the 20,000th delivery was an EX2 Inspire variant, priced from $30,990 before on-roads. It was delivered Ian Comet Grey with a Horizon Grey interior, at a dealership in Sydney last Friday.
The owner, Louise M said: “It’s the perfect little city car. A massive upgrade after 20 years. It will be great as an everyday car running around with the kids”.
Alex Gu, managing director at Geely Auto Australia, highlighted how quickly the brand has reached this 20,000 delivery milestone: “It’s an incredibly exciting time for Geely. We only just celebrated our 10,000th sale in April and now celebrate our 20,000th customer.”
“In doing so, we recognise and thank every one of our 20,000 new owners for choosing Geely. We are excited to have expanded our offering through the recent Geely EX2 launch, giving Australians new energy vehicle choices which suit their lifestyle and needs.”
The EX2 hatch comes with two variants, with the entry-level Complete starting from $26,490 before on-road costs. The Inspire variant goes up to $30,990 before on-road costs but adds a bigger battery and more range.
The entry-level EX2 Complete is powered by a rear-mounted electric motor that makes 60 kW of peak power and up to 150 Nm of torque.
This variant comes with a small 35 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery pack, delivering up to 252 km of range on the WLTP cycle.
The top-spec Inspire variant boosts those figures by having an upgraded motor that puts out 85 kW of power. It also comes with a larger 47 kWh LFP battery, with an improved range of up to 345 km.
Fast DC charging speeds of 60 kW for the Complete and 80 kW for the Inspire are available, while AC charging is capped at 6 kW.
We will monitor the sales of the EX2 in August as it’d be the first major month of deliveries of this affordable, space-filled model.
