Geely’s top-selling EX5 new OTA brings features owners “waited so long for”

Geely, one of the biggest car makers in the world, which has last year set up operations in Australia this year and delivered over 4,000 EX5 electric SUVs, has announced that the very popular model will now receive the highly anticipated Android Auto via an over-the-air (OTA) update.

This feature has been one of the most requested by Geely EX5 drivers since deliveries began in March last year, when the brand announced aggressive pricing for the two variants offered locally.

Adding Android Auto to the infotainment system will allow owners with Android phones to install the latest updates and enable phone mirroring, bringing their favourite apps into the car.

The screen-mirroring feature in the latest OTA will support wired and wireless connections, giving drivers both options.

On the back of this, one owner installed the update and shared their experience on Geely EX5 owners group: “Awesome have waited so long for this.”

Previously, Geely delivered Apple CarPlay to its EX5 vehicles via an OTA back in August 2025. At that time, users of Android devices are also expected to receive an update with Android Auto in the Geely EX5 in the first quarter of 2026.

The company has stuck to that timeline and has delivered this, improving the in-car experience for thousands of current and future customers.

Other features included as part of this OTA update are:

  • Drive Setup one-touch activation, which allows drivers to set their preferred driving  setting profile, with quick activation for every drive via the steering wheel shortcut button or the swipe-down menu on the central screen
  • Customisable AVAS low-speed alert sounds, offering 3 selectable audio profiles

In March 2025, Geely launched in the Australian market with the EX5 SUV with starting prices of $40,990 for the entry-level Complete variant, while a top-of-the-line Inspire variant started at $44,990, both before on-road costs.

For the Australian market, the EX5 comes with a 60.22 kWh battery pack that can deliver 430 km of WLTP range.

It also features a vehicle-to-load (V2L) discharge rate of up to 3.3 kW, which is an excellent offering given its price point.

The company now has 49 dealers across the country, more than doubling its dealership count since launching in March last year.

As more Geely EVs hit the road and OTA updates improve the customer experience, this will instil confidence in the brand and its EVs in the affordable segments of the market.

The latest update is expected to go out to all existing Australian owners by 9 February 2026.

In january, the Geely EX5 sold 415 units, placing at number 4 on the best selling list for the month, and ahead of the Tesla Model Y. In 2025, it sold 3,944 units, placing it at number 5 for the annual list.
