Earlier in the week, Jaecoo, a sub-brand of Chinese car giant Chery, revealed specs of its upcoming adventure-focused and pet-friendly J5 EV, and it appears firmly fixed on attracting the pet-owner EV market.
The company has launched a page on its website with pet and people-friendly merchandise and pricing that owners of the car can expect, once it lands in the coming months, including pet carriers and mics for people doing karaoke.
On the company’s Australian website, a “Jaecoo J5 Merchandise” page has gone live with 9 products that the company aims to offer to the adventure EV’s customers.
For pets, there are eight accessories, ranging from pet bowls for $30 to submarine pet carriers that cost $155, including GST.
Pet Accessories for the J5:
Some of these accessories may require fitment from the dealer, and costs for fitment will vary depending on the item being installed into the J5 EV, and if the dealer doing the installation.
For people, there is a karaoke set with two microphones that pair with the car, available for $165.
The rugged-looking J5 EV will be arriving in dealerships next month and will come in with a single variant.
Powering the J5 is a front-mounted 155 kW motor that produces 288 Nm of torque. It helps accelerate the car from 0-100 km/h in 7.7 seconds, which is fairly respectable for electric mid-size SUVs.
On the range front, the new model will deliver up to 402 km of WLTP range and can be charged at a DC charger, with a 30-80% session coming in around 28 minutes. That’s thanks to a 58.9 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery pack.
Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) is also on offer to power electrical equipment when needed on an adventure, or in the home in case of a blackout.
On the inside, there is a 13.2-inch vertical screen that controls things such as air conditioning, digital radio and vehicle settings.
For those looking to connect their phones and use their phone’s apps inside, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also available as standard.
The new J5 comes with quite a few safety features as standard, including seven airbags, Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Emergency Lane Keeping (ELK), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and Forward Collision Warning (FCW).
It also features a pet-friendly synthetic leather that is made of a special silicone-based material. Making the seats of the car antibacterial and wear-resistant, and also easier to clean.
The Jaeoo J5 EV will also come with a very progressive 8-year unlimited kilometre warranty, 8 years of capped priced servicing and 8-year unlimited kilometre battery warranty.
Pricing is expected to be announced later this month, along with initial drive test reviews, which are yet to come. We look forward to sharing what it’s like in this very competitive part of the market.
