BYD has been one of the fastest growing brands in the country in 2025 with its EV models such as the Sealion 7 and Atto 3 seeing a boost in sales. In October, BYD overtook Tesla to be the top selling electric brand in the country, at least for the month.
Now, the company has announced a $3,000 cashback offer to keep the momentum going as it aims to finish the year in the top 10 brands of all new car sales, and to try and cement its leadership over Tesla.
The cash back offer will apply for buyers of the Sealion 7, the Seal and the Atto 3. It does not apply to the newly released low cost EV models, the Atto 1 and Atto 2.
“This season, we’re putting more power behind your next move, with $3,000 Cashback on eligible BYD models for a limited time,” the company said in an email to prospective customers. “Whether you’ve had your eye on the sleek lines of the Shark 6, the athletic confidence of the Sealion 7, or the smart versatility of our Atto 3, now is the moment to make it yours.”
The latest cashback offer comes six weeks after the company offered $2,000 worth of accessories on its best-selling EV, the Sealion 7.
The latest offer will be eligible for those private buyers who purchase the Sealion 7 and Atto 3 electric SUVs before the end of 31 December 2025 and take deliver by 31 January 2026.
BYD has grown quite quickly in our market with the original Atto 3 SUV being launched in 2022. At that time it was the most affordable ground-up electric SUV.
Then in 2023, it launched one of Australia’s cheapest electric cars, the BYD Dolphin hatchback. Later that year, the brand launched the Seal electric sedan, helping it get thousands of sales in the months that followed.
In mid-2024, BYD unveiled its first PHEV, the Sealion 6, followed by the Shark 6 PHEV ute in the second half of the year. Both models racked up thousands of pre-orders and sales which followed.
In 2025, BYD was forecasting 40,000 deliveries, which it has already surpassed as of the end of October, tallying 41,882 sales according to data from FCAI vFacts.
This has been possible after price cuts and multiple model launches, making EVs more affordable than ever while increasing model availability.
In January this year, BYD offered, what was at that time Australia’s lowest-cost EV, starting at $29,990 with its BYD Dolphin hatchback, in a new EV price bombshell. That helped it gain quite a bit of momentum around the Dolphin and its other products.
Then, in February this year, it also launched the Sealion 7 SUV, which has already climbed the sales charts into the top 2 best-selling EVs in the country this year, overtaking the Tesla Model 3.
Then earlier this month, BYD dropped another bombshell, launching Australia’s cheapest EV, the Atto 1 as well as the country’s most affordable SUV, the Atto 2.
Deliveries of these models will start next month, adding to a very successful year for the brand, helping it easily surpass 50,000 sales in 2025.
We look forward to tracking BYD’s Sealion 7, Atto 3 and the Seal sales off the back of the latest incentive, geared to move the company’s in-stock inventory on this side of Christmas.
