Xpeng, a tech-driven EV maker from China, has unveiled three fully autonomous Level 4 Robotaxi models at its 2025 AI Day event at the companyās head office in Guangzhou, China.Ā
These are part of Xpengās global autonomy plan as the fast-growing company looks to expand in dozens of markets. The three new Robotaxi models are expected to be launched in 2026.
Xpengās CEO and chairman He Xiaopeng said these vehicles would be Chinaās first mass-produced Robotaxis.Ā The company said that the trial operations of these models will happen at the same time as the vehicles are launched.
These models will be equipped with Xpengās in-house chipset, known as the Turing chip,Ā which the company has developed and has been using in some of its newest models in 2025.
Xpeng G7 and P7 for example include this chipset, helping those vehicles with level 2+ autonomous driving features in China.
The Robotaxi vehicles will come with 4 Turing chips wth computing power of 3,000 TOPS (Tera Operations Per Second).Ā
According to Xpeng, these vehicles will be mass produced at the companyās factories with āno modifications required, no reliance on high-definition mapsā, which will significantly lower the cost to produce and operate in real-world use.
On top of that, the models will incorporate six systems with dual redundancy to achieve some of the safest level 4 intelligent driving systems available globally.
In Australia, Xpeng launched its G6 in December 2024 at its flagship Sydney airport showroom.Ā
This model is offered in two variants, starting with the standard range, starting from $54,800 before on-road costs. There is also a long-range variant, which starts at $59,800.
Since then, the G6 model has seen over 2,000 sales, according to data compiled by carloop.Ā
This shows that thereās good demand for Xpengās vehicles in our market, and increasing the tech capabilities and growing its lineup could help the brand grow in our market.
With multiple models being launched in the Chinese market in 2025, a few of these are likely to arrive in international markets next year, which for Australia could include the X9 MPV and the updated G6.
Having attended Xpengās brand night in Hong Kong earlier this year and seeing the focus on the companyās tech rollout, itās only a matter of time before we see autonomous driving features being rolled out to its fleet across international markets like ours.
For now, we look forward to seeing these mass-produced fully autonomous vehicles, along with other tech-driven models with level 2+ systems.Ā
