Zeekr 7X electric SUV approved in Australia, offers 2-tonne towing

The highly anticipated upcoming Zeekr 7X electric SUV, which also happens to be Australia’s fastest charging car, has now received approval for sale in Australia with confirmation that it will tow up to 2 tonnes.

This was shared on X after being spotted by EV enthusiast Zappedau, with the documentation of the approval showing 2,000 kg of braked towing on the 7X.

With that towing capacity, it could appeal to drivers who occasionally need to tow a trailer, a small boat, or a caravan. 

The 7X was announced for the Australian market from Zeekr, the premium electric car maker, to arrive in Australia in the coming months.

In less than a week, the company announced that it had secured over 1,000 pre-orders, confirming the high level of anticipation surrounding this model.

In our local market, three variants are offered with pricing (before on-roads) coming at:

• RWD – $57,900
• Long Range RWD – $63,900
• Performance AWD – $72,900

The entry-level RWD features Zeekr’s 75 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery pack, which allows for charging speeds of up to 450 kW, thanks to the 800 V architecture the model sits on. This battery will also deliver a WLTP range of up to 480 km on a single charge. 

There is also 22 kW AC charging available across all variants, making the 7X in its RWD variant, one of the few cars under $60,000 that offer 22 kW on-board charger.

Up next is the Long Range RWD variant which bumps that range figure to 615 km. That model comes with a 100 kWh Nickel-Manganese-Cobalt (NMC) battery, providing an increase in range for $6,000 more.

There is also the top-spec Performance AWD variant, with acceleration of 0-100 km/h taking just 3.8 seconds, down from 6 seconds in the entry-level RWD variant. This variant uses the same 100 kWh battery as the Long Range RWD.

This top-spec Performance AWD variant’s range drops back to 543 km, thanks to the addition of the second motor but provides a massive bump in power when on the road.

All variants also include vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability with 3.3 kW output, making it convenient to power other electrical devices when parked in the garage or when on the go.

This is particularly helpful if camping with the car and given its 2-tonne towing capacity, it’d be most welcomed by many owners.

The Zeekr 7X is the most anticipated car from the brand, and with over 1,000 pre-orders already in, we expect to see a lot from the brand in the coming months.

The first customer deliveries are expected to begin in October, while we look forward to test-driving the car on local roads to see what it’s really like. 

One thing is for sure, the 7X with these specs, tech and now towing capabilities is turning out to be a great all-rounder that could very well be the benchmark for electric family SUVs.
