In March 2025, Xpeng, one of the recent EV brands in Australia, officially launched the updated 2025 G6 electric SUV in China with cheaper pricing and faster charging speeds on its 800 V architecture.
Now, the company has launched this new model in Thailand’s right-hand-drive market, marking a big step towards its potential launch in Australia.
According to Xpeng Thailand’s X page, the new model has been launched with two variants, the Long Range and AWD Performance.
The Long Range variant’s pricing starts at $A64,300 while the Performance variant bumps that up to $A71,000.
On pricing, the Long Range variant’s pricing is below the original 2024 launch pricing in Thailand, which was around $A76,200 in August last year.
The new G6 is being showcased at the Big Motor Sale 2025 show in Bangkok until the end of the month.
On the new G6, one of the biggest changes has been the improved charging speeds, in just over two years after the model was unveiled in April 2023.
The latest model delivers 10-80% charging in just 12 minutes with its 800 V architecture, getting it close to the Australian-bound Zeekr 7X, which still holds the title for the fastest-charging production car.
The battery that enables this in the Thai-bound variants is the larger 80.8 kWh Lithium-Iron-Phosphate (LFP) battery pack for the Long Range and AWD Variants.
In the new model, there are also improvements to the chassis, with comfort levels improved due to the use of an upgraded double-wishbone suspension system with hydraulic damping.
On the self-driving tech in the new G6, the car now packs 8 Megapixel front and rear cameras and two Nvidia Orin intelligent driving chips, helping the car achieve high levels of LiDAR-free self-driving in China.
Other key changes include a new light bar at the front of the car, updated bumpers, a new light strip with a spoiler at the rear, new paint options after removing Orange from the lineup, new wheels, ambient lighting with an upgraded interior, a bigger centre-screen and more.
This car is also slightly longer, with 5 mm added over the existing model, bringing the total length of the car to 4,758 mm.
Initially, the G6 model was first unveiled at the Shanghai Auto Show in 2023 and was dubbed the brand’s most important car. The first customer deliveries of this model to Chinese customers started in the second half of the year.
For the right-hand-drive markets like Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia and Australia, deliveries of the first Xpeng models will begin in the second half of 2024.
Earlier this year, Xpeng further expanded into more right-hand-drive markets like the UK, starting with the G6 again as the market-entry model and other models to follow.
Locally, Xpeng sales so far have not been reported, so it’s been unclear how the brand is developing in our local market, given the quality of the premium G6 SUV.
The new G6 appears to amp things up in terms of tech, and we look forward to getting behind the wheel when it lands on our shores, hopefully on this side of Christmas.
