Tesla has started to offer free supercharging for life to new owners of a Model 3 in a bid to move the company’s Model 3 inventory in Canada.

In a post on X, the Tesla North America account wrote: ā€œUnlimited road trips through Canada. Free Supercharging now on all Model 3 inventoryā€.

Off the back of that, one excited customer checked if this offer would work across the border in the US for an owner that lives in Canada: ā€œWait? Free supercharging for life? Great deal. Would it work if road tripping in the US?ā€.

To which Tesla replied with: ā€œYepā€. This would potentially save hundreds of dollars on long road trips for owners who take advantage of the new offer on the Model 3, which, of course, is one of the most efficient electric cars on the market.

It’s not the first time, Tesla has offered free supercharging in other markets. In December 2024, the company offered a similar deal on its flagship sedan, the Tesla Model S, for US customers.

For many early years in Australia, Tesla offered free supercharging on all its Model S and Model X vehicles. That was until the end of 2016, when the brand decided to pull that incentive out.

At that time, Tesla had a handful of superchargers but has since expanded its network to almost 130 sites in recent years and over 70,000 stalls globally.

On the back of those incentives, there are often cars from that era that come on the used EV market with free supercharging, which get snapped up fairly quickly by enthusiasts.

In recent years, short-term free supercharging offers have been available in Australia too. During June 2023, Tesla offered three months of free unlimited supercharging on Model 3 and Model Y Performance models in Australia.

Currently, there are multiple incentives on offer in our market, which include a $3,000 lending incentive and a $3,000 novated lease incentive available for those looking at buying a new Model Y.

The trade-in incentive is also still available to those looking to buy a new Tesla. Until 30 September 2025, interested buyers of a new or demo Model Y will receive an additional $2,000 off the price of that car when trading in a used vehicle.

The company is also giving existing owners of Tesla EVs with enhanced autopilot or full-self-driving (FSD) software to be able to transfer it to a new or demo Tesla until the end of September.
