Geely doubles dealer network to over 40 dealers within 6 months of launch

In March this year, Geely, one of the newest brands in Australia, launched the EX5 electric SUV along with its brand in the Australian and New Zealand markets.

Less than 6 months later, and after delivering over 2,300 electric cars in our market, the company has announced that it now has 43 dealers across the country.

This means the brand has almost doubled its dealers within the same period, as it reported its first 22 dealers as it ramped up big plans for the Australian market back in March.

“Geely’s rapid dealership growth is a testament to our efficiency, speed to market, and our strong commitment to the Australian customer,” Li Lei, CEO of Geely Auto Australia, said in a statement.

“We are focused on making Geely vehicles accessible to more Australians than ever before — not only at the point of purchase, but throughout their entire ownership experience.”

The latest dealer group to partner with Geely includes the Autosports Group, helping the brand expand further into other parts of the country.

This announcement also comes weeks before Geely plans to launch its second model which will be called the Starray, a plug-in hybrid SUV, in September 2025.

Geely entered the Australian market with the EX5 SUV with starting prices of $40,990 for the entry-level Complete variant, while a top-of-the-line Inspire variant started at $44,990, both before on-road costs.

On the specs front, the EX5 is a fairly spacious family electric SUV, which comes in at 4,615 mm, making it larger than the other popular, affordable electric SUVs like the BYD Atto 3.

Locally, the EX5 comes with a 60.22 kWh that can deliver 430 km of WLTP range. On the charging front, this battery from 30-80% will take roughly 20 minutes, thanks to a 100 kW peak DC charging speed, making it a fairly decent car for road trips.

When it comes to AC charging, 11 kW of AC charging is available along with a vehicle-to-load (V2L) discharge rate of up to 3.3 kW. This is an excellent offering given its price point.

That aggressive pricing at launch struck a chord with Australians, with over 600 orders for the EX5 placed within a few weeks of Geely announcing pricing of the car and opening its order books.

Part of this success was an offer on orders placed and delivered before April 30 which included one-year complimentary public charging and a free 7kW home charger, a 3.88 per cent comparison rate on finance, three years of complimentary scheduled servicing, and an upgrade to premium paint options.

Many of these offerings were replaced by a cashback offer as part of the end-of-financial-year incentive, which has since finished, helping the brand get almost 1,850 sales by the end of June, which was also its biggest month, scoring 822 sales in that month alone.

July saw those sales come off the boil with almost 500 sales, helping the brand get 2,335 total sales by the end of the month.

With the expansion of its dealer network continuing and sales seeing good traction, the brand has set a solid foundation for its upcoming expansion in years to come.
