Tesla opens Australia’s biggest charging site with 20 bays

The biggest fast charging site in Australia – a 20-stall Tesla Supercharger facility in the city of Goulburn in NSW – has come online, making trips in an EV between Sydney and Canberra a whole lot easier.

In a post on X, the Tesla Charging account shared the update and captioned: “New Tesla Supercharger: Goulburn, NSW, Australia – Lockyer Street (20 stalls)”.

Tesla’s country director for Australia and New Zealand, Thom Drew, also shared this on LinkedIn, stating that it’s the largest site in the southern hemisphere, and noting it is open to all CCS2 compatible vehicles.

“Right by the famous Big Merino, this is the largest site in the southern hemisphere and complements the original 8 stall site in town,” he wrote.

The site features 20 stalls with up to 250 kW of power available per stall. Charging fees for Tesla owners are currently at $0.52/kWh.

These chargers are also expected to be open to all EV drivers with cars that are compatible with the superchargers. For those drivers, pricing is currently set at $0.73/kWh, which can be reduced with a Tesla charging membership.

Located at Lockyer St, in Goulburn, the site is located close to a major fast-food restaurant and other amenities. It’s well-lit, unlike another aging site with Tritium chargers in another part of the town.

Tesla already operates a site in Goulburn at the Visitor Information Centre with 8 V2 stalls, which are currently available to only Tesla drivers, so this new site with the latest charging hardware will be welcomed by many needing a charge, given how busy this route is.

In recent weeks, Tesla has also opened a new site in Kew, NSW, housing 8 V4 stalls, on the way to Port Macquarie. This would ease congestion on surrounding charging sites as we head into the busy summer holiday period in Q4 this year.

In Australia, as of August 2025, Tesla is now operating almost 130 active sites, according to the latest data from carloop.

Over 80 sites, which make up nearly two-thirds of all Tesla sites in Australia, are open to non-Tesla EVs, allowing all drivers with compatible cars to charge at the country’s most reliable charging network.

The new site now takes the crown as the biggest fast-charging site in Australia from Tesla’s Albury site with 16 stalls, which opened in December 2023.

It’s worth noting that both of these Tesla sites have been co-funded by the NSW government’s as part of the state’s Fast charging grants scheme.

With the rising number of EVs making it onto the roads every month, major thoroughfares will see bigger sites in the coming years.

It’s great to see Tesla leading the charge with building bigger and bigger sites, as it should also encourage other operators to build bigger and better charging hubs across the country.
