Nissan unveils UK pricing for new all-electric Micra, first of four new EV models

Japanese automaker Nissan has unveiled pricing for its new all-electric Nissan Micra, with prices starting from £22,995 for the 40 kilowatt-hour (kWh) entry-level model.

Nissan unveiled the Micra back in May, the sixth-generation supermini which is returning as a battery electric vehicle (BEV) featuring two different battery sizes.

The Micra, which has been designed specifically with European customers in mind, will be available in three grades and two battery sizes, starting at £22,995 (around $A47,000 at current conversion rates) for the entry-level 40 kWh Engage.

The next grade up is the Advanced, available with either a 40 kWh and 52 kWh battery, will be priced at £24,995 ($A51,000) and £26,995 ($A55,000), respectively.

A third and final model is the Micra Evolve, which only comes with the 52 kWh battery and starts from £29,865 ($A61,000).

At launch, Nissan promised that the 40 kWh battery would deliver around 192 miles of range, and the 52 kWh around 253 miles. However, according to Nissan, “further testing” has shown that the official range now sits at 198 miles (318 kilometres) and 260 miles (418 kilometres), respectively.

Nissan did not, however, clarify which testing cycle they used.

Optional extras include 18” alloy wheels, heated front seats and heated steering wheel, and hands free parking, all for £500 each, and an alternative grey synthetic leather interior for £400.

“Micra is the first of four new fully electric models to arrive on the Nissan line up and we are incredibly excited to be pricing it so competitively,” said James Taylor, manging director of Nissan GB.

“Micra is a key strategic model for Nissan, and based on the positive reviews, exciting design, attractive price and a class-leading product, I am looking forward to seeing lots of new Micras on the road soon.”

The new Nissan Micra also features either 80 kilowatt (kW) or 100 kW DC charging, depending on the battery size, making it possible to quick charge from 15 per cent to 80 per cent in only 30 minutes. And, to further maximise charging efficiency, a heat pump is standard on both battery options, as well as battery heating and cooling capabilities.
