Xpeng releases new details of its upcoming sleek large electric sedan

Last month, Xpeng, one of the fastest-growing Chinese EV brands, launched another new model, the all-new tech-driven G7, which, within 9 minutes, received over 10,000 firm orders.

Now, the company has teased its next new model, and it’s a sleek sports sedan with its eyes set on the premium large electric sedan market.

On the company’s X page, it shared a new video of its P7 sedan with an active rear spoiler that offers 10-level adjustment and is clearly geared towards sports car enthusiasts.

The video shows a yellow sedan driving on a race track with the rear spoiler engaged and turning around sections of the track.

Another video was shared with another unique silver colour, and highlights active front grille shutters for better aerodynamics on the track.

From the side profiles, it looks like quite an aggressive GT car with large wheels, reminiscent of cars like the four-door Mercedes-Benz GT performance sedan.

Given it’s an Xpeng with the latest models like the G7 featuring 800 V architecture and ultra-fast charging tech, we expect something similar in the P7.

On the inside, there is a large screen which can tilt towards or away from the driver, along with vertical tilt capabilities.

This was shared on Xpeng’s Weibo page in the last 24 hours and gives a glimpse into the tech the company is packing into this sports sedan.

On it’s Weibo page, Xpeng said: “A 3-axis design creates a nodding, responsive “personal butler”; with anthropomorphic wake-up, swiping gestures, and an anthropomorphic sentry,”.

There is also the latest heads-up tech that’s expected from the G7 SUV.

The new P7 also has some of the most sporty seats on any Xpeng so far, with great lumbar and side supports, which are much needed when driving around a race track or even on long drives.

The steering wheel is also smaller and more driver-focused, with a screen behind the steering wheel that’s designed with the driver in mind.

More details on the new model are expected to be announced in the coming weeks, but from what we have seen so far, it’s quite a different car from the rest of Xpeng’s lineup. It’s geared far more towards the driver.

Having seen the preview of the P7 last week in Guangzhou when I was in China, it feels unlike anything from Xpeng that I’ve been in before. 

It’s far more sporty and aggressive in its looks, the seats and steering feel just right when sitting in it, especially for those wanting an electric sports sedan.

We look forward to driving this model in the coming months to see what it’s really like on the road but from its GT sedan styling, sporty looks and fast-charging tech that’s expected from Xpeng’s vehicles, it will be quite a unique car on the market at launch.
