Hyundai debuts 2026 Ioniq 6 high-performance EV with 478 kW of power

In 2023, Hyundai unveiled the performance-oriented Ioniq 5 N performance edition at the famous Goodwood Festival of Speed, with a massive 478 kW of power thanks to various changes to the powertrain setup.

Now, two years later, the company has taken things up a notch by unveiling the new Ioniq 6 N with a big performance boost over the existing sedan.

The new Ioinq 6 N is the company’s second high-performance EV, packing similar power levels to those seen on the 5 N but with quicker acceleration and a whole lot of race-oriented track features.

José Muñoz, President and CEO of Hyundai Motor Company, said: “With Ioniq 6 N, Hyundai N aims to elevate its offerings, enticing drivers with electric powertrains that offer high-performance enthusiasts a thrilling new avenue to electrify their passion both on the road and the track,”.

Starting with the acceleration from the dual-motor powertrain, which propels the car from 0-100 km/h in just 3.2 seconds using the N Launch Control feature. After that, it can drive up to its top speed of 257 km/h, making it one of the fastest sedans on the market.

As mentioned above, up to 478 kW of power is available along with peak torque of 770 Nm when N Grin Boost is switched on.

Without it, 448 kW of power is available thanks to it’s high-performance dual-motor drivetrain.

That is massively up from 239 kW found on the AWD versions of the standard Ioniq 6 Techniq and Epiq versions.

An 84 kWh battery pack has been included, which can be charged from 10-80% in 18 minutes with the right ultra-rapid charger.

On the styling front, Lots of external upgrades have also been added to the Ioniq 6, including graphics and side skirts, which make the car a lot more aggressive on the road. There is also a big rear spoiler, making the car quite hard to miss.

Moving onto the inside, there are N-branded interior styling features along with a new steering wheel, sports seats and pedals.

The “N” vehicles are traditionally performance variants of Hyundai’s ICE vehicles so it’s good to see an electric N performance variant of the brand’s Ioniq range of electric vehicles.

On this car, the iconic Performance Blue Pearl is offered which sets it apart from the rest of the Ioniq 6 lineup.

With the Ioniq 5 N being quite a well-regarded first model from the brand, the Ioniq 6 N will bring a bit more of a fanfare to the growing list of performance-focused models from the brand.

With Hyundai having ambitious EV transition plans, it makes sense for the N variants of its all-electric models to head in that direction as well, with talks of the new Inster also potentially getting an N version down the line.

The latest Ioniq 6 N is expected to go on sale early next year, with pricing expected to be above $100,000 mark, which the current Ioniq 5 N commands.
