Xpeng launches G7 at less than $A41,700, obtains 10,000 orders in just 9 minutes

Last month, Xpeng, one of the fastest-growing Chinese EV brands, launched another new model, this time an SUV, the all-new tech-driven G7, which, within an hour of launching, received over 10,000 pre-orders.

Now, the company has officially launched the model with a sharper price, raking in 10,000 firm orders in just 9 minutes.

On the company’s Weibo page, the company shared: “Xiaopeng G7, 9 minutes, the order exceeded 10,000 units!”

This came just after the official pricing of the new model was unveiled, starting at the equivalent of $A41,700 and going up to $A48,000 for the top variant.

These prices of the new family electric SUV are below the pre-sale prices announced last month, which started at $A50,200 and were above the G6 SUV in China.

This reduction has driven a lot more interest in the new larger and sleeker G7 model, which, according to Xpeng, is an “AI smart family SUV which combines hardcore technology with full luxury and comfort,”.

Powering the car will be a rear-mounted single motor which produces 218 kW of power, enough to get around town and on highways. That’s slightly more powerful than that found in the current Xpeng G6 in Australia, which has its variants capped at 210 kW for the Long Range variant.

On the battery front, it comes with two Lithium-Iron-Phosphate (LFP) battery packs, with pack sizes of 68.5 kWh to 81 kWh.

It’s good to see both batteries now featuring LFP technology, whereas the current G6 is offered with an NMC battery pack in the Long Range version.

These new LFP batteries on the G7 are expected to deliver between 577 km and 702 km on the CLTC cycle. That’s likely to be 450 km to 580 km on the WLTP cycle used in Australia.

When it comes to styling the front, there is a full-width light-bar, as also seen on the 2025 Xpeng G6, which is the successor to the model currently being delivered in Australia.

Looking at it from the side, multiple design features pop out, including flush door handles on the large SUV.

Staying on the sides, repeater cameras for autonomous and smart driving are located here, which has become pretty standard on Xpeng’s vehicles.

Moving towards the rear, the roof doesn’t slope as much as the G6, giving it a more conventional SUV look and greater rear passenger headspace.

There is also a full-width light bar with curved tail lights at the rear, giving it a unique look on the road. This has also been seen on other models like the P7+, which was recently showcased at the Melbourne EV show for the very first time in international markets.

On the inside, the new G7 features a large 15.6-inch screen, which is similar to the one found on the G6. It removes the screen from behind the steering wheel, replacing it with a high-tech heads-up display that will augment all the information usually seen on a screen.

The new Xpeng G7 is expected to begin deliveries in the coming weeks, adding another well-received product to Xpeng’s growing EV lineup, which brings with it the latest tech the brand has to offer.

It also shows the speed at which the company is moving with model launches compared to legacy automakers.

With the latest model’s launch, Xpeng is going to double down on its global expansion plans too, by bringing fresher products to markets sooner.

Locally in Australia, Xpeng officially launched in December last year and since then has delivered hundreds of the G6 SUV. It’s unclear at this stage when the G7 might head to international markets, but it’s likely to be in 2026.

This new G7 is expected to be one of its top sellers for Xpeng this year ,and with the latest tech, improved styling, and likely speed of delivery to customers, it can get there.

We look forward to driving this car in the coming months to see how it compares to the current G6 SUV and learn more about the company’s local expansion plans.
