MG has announced an update to the pricing of its affordable electric hatchback, with some variants now increasing by up to $3,000.
Effective July 1st, the MY25 MG4 will see a price increase for all variants, except the X-Power, which remains unchanged.
The entry-level Excite 51 variant sees its driveaway price increase by $1,000 from $36,990 up to $37,990. The Excite 64 variant, with a larger battery pack, will see its prices increase by $2,000, starting at $42,990 from the start of next month.
The biggest price increase has been in the Essence 64 variant, which sees it get a $3,000 bump, going from $42,990 to $45,990.
Essence 77, which features the largest battery and longest range in the lineup, will have its drive-away prices starting from $50,990.
As mentioned above, the X-Power performance variant will remain at its current driveaway price of $55,990.
MG Motor Australia’s CEO, Peter Ciao the MG4 still delivers “unbeatable value” for Australian families.
“We set out to raise the bar for electric vehicles, and it’s clear to see we’ve done just that. There’s never been a better time to buy. After 1 July, pricing will increase, and this level of discount won’t return.”
In the second half of 2024, MG shook the industry by announcing a price drop for its MG4 Excite 51 to an all-time low in late September, with the model starting at just $30,990 driveaway.
The new pricing, effective July 1, is up by $7,000 compared to its previous all-time low.
This entry-level variant comes with a 51 kWh lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery pack, which delivers up to 350 km of WLTP range.
This is paired with a rear-mounted 125 kW motor, which enables the car to accelerate from a standstill to 100 km/h in just 7.7 seconds.
There is also vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality and Android Auto & Apple Carplay, which is featured even in the base variant of the MG4.
The Excite and Essence variants, with a 64 kWh battery pack, can deliver up to 450 km of range on a single charge, which is nearly 100 km more than the Excite 51 variant.
The Essence 77 features a 77 kWh battery pack, which will deliver up to 530 km of range on a single charge.
MG4 owners also receive MG’s benchmark warranty program that includes a 10-year or 250,000 km warranty across its entire range.
Interested customers who wish to take advantage of the current prices should check with a local MG dealer this month.
With the pricing of EVs generally coming down, the MG4 price increase comes at an interesting time. Post-price increases will see the MY25 MG4 priced above the BYD Dolphin Essential and the GWM Ora.
What the MG4 has over those cars is its track record, having sold over 10,000 units since its launch in late 2023. Those proven hatchback credentials are expected to continue, even with the new prices.

If I was a new buyer at those prices I'd take a serious look at the S5 instead.
It looks like it's addressed a lot of the MG4 owners complaints.
MG raising prices as everyone else is bringing them down. Haha. What a dumb move from MG.
I guess it still sees itself as a premium brand/badge.
In the old days you could tell the difference between makes by looking at them. Those days are gone.
