MG’s next electric SUV – the MGS6 EV – approved for sale in Australia

In April 2025, MG revealed local pricing of its new electric SUV, the MGS5 EV, around five months after the car received its Australian approval in December.

Now, MG’s next electric model, the MGS6 EV, has received approval documentation, providing insights into four variants, which could arrive on our local shores later this year.

This allows these variants to be sold in Australia, which include two battery packs and two drivetrain options.

The new MGS6 will be offered with battery packs ranging from 62 kWh all the way up to 77 kWh.

Of these packs, the smaller 62 kWh has Lithium-Iron-Phosphate (LFP) chemistry is spotted in the entry-level rear-wheel-drive (RWD) variant and can be charged up to 100% for daily use.

The other three variants have the 77 kWh battery pack, which has the Nickel-Cobalt-Manganese (NCM) chemistry.

These variants include two RWD options as well as a top-spec all-wheel-drive (AWD) version.

All these battery packs are then described with trim levels which the regulatory documentation calls “COM”, “LUX” & “FLG”. 

At this stage, it’s unclear what these two acronyms mean, but the FLG could be used to describe “flagship” top luxury trim.

Not much more is known about this car, but given its battery sizes compared to the recently launched MGS5 EV SUV, it’s expected to be bigger.

This could include an increase in length from 4.46 metres in MGS5, which would bring it closer to a 4.7-metre SUV that competes with popular models such as the Tesla Model Y.

This car is also expected to use MG’s Modular Scalable Platform, which was first introduced locally in the very popular MG4 affordable hatchback.

Along with that, like other new MG models, the new MGS6 will have the company’s industry-leading 10-year/250,000km warranty, giving buyers peace of mind when buying their first EV.

More details on the upcoming MGS6, including key local specifications and pricing, are likely to be announced later this year. At this stage, though, we expect the starting price of this model to be closer to $50,000 when it is announced closer to launch.
