MG has announced the Australian pricing of its newly launched MGS5 EV, with the base Excite 49kWh variant to be priced from $40,490, drive away, with pre-orders open ahead of May delivery.
MG also says the first 500 customers to place a refundable $500 deposit at their local MG dealership will receive a 7kW MG Charge Hub valued at $1,199 when they collect their car.
The MGS5 EV is seen as the successor to the popular MG ZS EV, but it is actually built on parent company SAIC’s battery-electric Modular Scalable Platform, the same platform as the popular MG4, which has been one of Australia’s best selling EVs.
The new model was unveiled at the Melbourne Motor Show in April and is available in two battery sizes – 49kWh and 62kWh, available in both the Excite and Essence specifications.
The 49kWh Excite boasts EV range of 415km (NEDC), while the 62kWh Excite pushes that to 515km (NEDC). Similarly, the E49kWh Essence delivers a marginally less 410km (NEDC) while the 62kWh Essence still delivers a range of 515km.
Those ranges will be close to 350kms to 420 kms in the WTLP system commonly used in Australia.
All four models put out maximum power of 125kW and 250Nm of torque and allow charging from 30 per cent to 80 per cent in around 19 minutes.
Pricing for the other variants bounce up to $42,990 for the MGS5 EV Essence 49kWh, $44,990 for the MGS5 EV Excite 62kWh, and topping out at $47,990 for the MGS5 EV Essence 62kWh.
The MGS5 EV omes with a 10.25-inch dashboard which is complimented by a 12.8-inch central infotainment display screen with MG’s upgraded interface technology featuring Apple Carplay and Android Auto across the range, while the Essence variant will come with hands-free power tailgate.
“The MGS5 EV will offer the best value for Australian families in the electric SUV segment,” said Peter Ciao, CEO of MG Motor Australia.
“Australians love the driving dynamics of the MG4, with these carried over to the MGS5 EV. Our love of an SUV, combined with MG’s upgraded tech features, the MGS5 EV is certain to be embraced by Australian motorists.
The MGS5 EV will also be backed by the company’s 10-year/250,000 kilometre warranty and nearly 100 dealerships across the country.

A couple of things not mentioned here & that may be important to some:
LFP for the smaller batteries, NMC for the larger:
It is a much larger car than the ZSEV it replaces.
LFP for 49 & 62 kWhr batteries (current Australian models).
NMC for 64 kWhr battery offered in the UK "Trophy" models.
The NMC battery also has increased output motor of 170kW/350nM.
This model is supposed to arrive in Australia 2026.
