Tesla is now offering $US2,000, or $A3,100, off the price of a new Model Y to owners of the original 2020 Model Y vehicles, as part of a āYou Were One of the Firstā offer to encourage them to upgrade.
According to an email sent out to early customers in the US, which EV enthusiast and news account, Sawyer Merritt, on X, Tesla is offering this to thousands of early adopters of the brandās first relatively affordable electric SUV.
The email reads: āTo thank you for being an early Model Y owner, we’re offering you $2,000 toward the purchase of a new Model Y.ā
It also states the key features found in the new Model Y, such as its improved comfort levels and upgraded efficiency, which makes it an attractive offering for existing customers.
This is one of the first times Tesla has offered this type of an offer, given most of the fleet is still relatively new and comes only months after the launch of the latest Model Y.
Existing customers with these original vehicles can take advantage of this offer until the end of June, but according to Tesla, itās subject to change or end at any time.
In addition to this offer, several other offers are available in the US to encourage existing customers to help the company boost its sales.

These include free full-self-driving (FSD) transfer on almost all its model lineup, including its most popular Model Y SUV.
There is also a 0% financing offer available to Model 3 order holders and multiple free exterior colours and white interior options included on the sedan’s Performance variants in that market.
Many of these offers are exclusive to the US market, but several are available on select used Model 3 and Model Y vehicles here in Australia.
According to the brand’s local website, the Model Y discounts are available on the previous generation inventory until stock lasts, while the Model 3 inventory discounts are available until 30 June.
Tesla still leads the way in terms of electric sales in Australia, with over 5,000 sales in the first quarter of this year. In comparison, BYD, its closest competitor, has seen just shy of 1,850 sales across its four electric models.
Sales of both brands are expected to increase in the coming months as both Tesla and BYD deliver new models.
As the year progresses, pricing locally will also help boost sales, just as is anticipated with the latest offerings in the US.
