Geely receives top ANCAP safety score for low cost EX5, its first EV in Australia

Geely’s first branded EV in Australia, the EX5 SUV, which also happens to be one of the cheapest ground-up EV offerings in the market, has received a five-star ANCAP safety rating.

Starting at $40,990 for the entry-level Complete variant, the new EX5 scored well in all areas, including adult and child occupant protection, vulnerable road user protection, and safety assistance systems.

ANCAP’s summarised results after testing of the EX5 are quite high, with many areas outperforming other affordable electric SUVs on the market:

  • Adult Occupant Protection – 86%
  • Child Occupant Protection – 87%
  • Vulnerable Road User Protection – 83%
  • Safety Assist – 85%

The Geely EX5 achieving the maximum  ANCAP safety rating sets a solid standard for our local brand and reinforces the fact that we make no compromises when it  comes to the safety of our customers,” Li Lei, CEO of Geely Auto Australia, said in a statement.

“Sharing knowledge and technology with our sister brands put the Geely EX5 in an advanced position, and we  believe we have made key safety features accessible for as many consumers as possible.”

The Geely EX5 has hit the ground running, with over 188 deliveries in just March after officially launching the brand in the middle of the month. Last week, the brand also reported taking over 600 orders to date, which is a pretty good start in an increasingly competitive segment of the electric SUV market.

To help keep the momentum up, customers who place an order on the EX5 before 30 April will receive a few extras, including:

  • One-year complimentary public charging
  • Complimentary 7kW home charger (excluding installation)
  • 3.88% comparison rate finance
  • Three years of complimentary scheduled servicing
  • Upgrade to premium paint

To further assist with the ownership experience, Geely will be offering a 7-year, unlimited-kilometre standard warranty along with an 8-year, unlimited-kilometre high-voltage battery warranty.

During ownership, there will also be a 7-year Assured Service pricing, similar to capped price servicing offered by other brands.

For those owners servicing at Geely dealers, a 7-year complimentary roadside assistance package will also be provided for peace of mind.

The latest five-star ANCAP safety score could provide more assurance to those looking to get behind the wheel of a well-equipped electric SUV in 2025.
