Sydney based electric vehicle (EV) charging solutions company EVSE has acquired the Australian and New Zealand EV charging network of global energy and services group Engie.
EVSE, which is owned by Sydney utility services company Intellihub Group, says theacquisition adds over 200 new charging locations to those already operated by EVSE’s sister company, the Exploren Charging Network, including at Australia’s largest shopping centre, Chadstone Shopping Centre in Melbourne’s southeast.
A price tag was not attached to the acquisition, but the deal is expected to be a game-changer for EVSE.
“In a single transaction, EVSE now has a presence in an additional 200 high-traffic, high-visibility locations, providing greater convenience and support for customers using the Exploren Charging Network – the fastest growing EV charging network in Australia,” said CEO Brendan Wheeler.
“The Exploren Charging Network simplifies the way in which customers access EV public charging solutions by providing a singular payment interface for sites across the country. This transaction is a critical piece in the puzzle of delivering seamless charging access at home, at work and on the road.”
The Exploren network now consists of over 4,000 charge points across Australia and New Zealand. Each of the newly acquired charging locations are made up of DC fast chargers, capable of topping up EV batteries in as little as 30 minutes.
The announcement comes almost a year to the date after it was reported that Engie was looking for a capital partner to partner on its Australian EV charging network.
The acquisition was reportedly supported by Australia’s oldest private equity firm Pacific Equity Partners and American investing giant Brookfield.

I misread the article at first glance thinking they were adding more EV chargers! But no, it's just the existing ones changing hands! :( Shame we need hundreds more...
