Video: Tesla’s sales plummet, and why Elon Musk is partly to blame

Elon Musk’s wealth has doubled to more than $US400 billion over the past year. But this close ties with US President Donald Trump appear to be hurting Tesla’s electric vehicle sales, which recorded a significant drop in Australia, Europe and California in January.

The Business host David Chau spoke with Giles Parkinson, founder of The Driven, about the various factors behind Tesla’s declining EV sales, including greater competition from cheaper Chinese brands like BYD.

  • In what sense (as an absent CEO) is he not totally to blame.......he even hand picked his 'family' Board that hold him accountable 😔.

  • The brand is moribund - in a world of self-inflicted pain - which no amount of fettling can avoid being crushed BYD alone. Musk bankruptcy is America's best chance of survival as a sort of democracy.

  • Not to blame my @rse. Several of my friends have said they’ll never buy a Tesla now. One rural mate was so fed up NBN satellite he was all set to go with starlink but has decided not to. Everything to do with Musk. Let’s see what the shareholders have to say about…

  • Ha.
Remember BP, when they had that big 'ol oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico?
Remember how everyone was all 'boycott BP' and all that.
    Yeah, me neither.

  • Seen all the videos of the designers and engineers talking about the new Model Y?
Seeing their pride and passion in their work.
Thinking that Tesla vehicles are not worth it because of someone else in the company who has not had a direct impact on the product...
That sort of prejudice makes just as much sense as racism.

    • So, what you're saying is that these super talented Tesla employees have absolutely no freedom of choice to go and work somewhere else? They are well aware that their supreme leader is a Nazi sympathizing psychopath, and yet they continue to tow line unabated. No sympathy here!!

p.s. WWII Nazi's had pride and passion in their work too, did that make them good citizens by your logic??

  • Crazies Musk Trump Putin and others driving the gravy train apparently running the world overwhelming observers leaves many slack jawed. Another example of meglomania from techxplore. :
"Tesla tycoon bidding to buy Altman's OpenAI in an apparent attempt to derail the ChatGPT.

  • Unless we're talking about the average cash strapped Tesla factory worker who has a family to support etc., all the other cashed up Tesla employees, especially Lars and Franz, have a choice to walk away anytime and work elsewhere, or retire altogether.

Sorry I don't shed a single tear for these wealthy acolytes that continue to tow the line for Musk. Your argument has very little substance.

  • God help us, another Social Justice Warrior. When you look at the world out of one eye, you see only half the picture.

  • Wow, how insightful, did you write that yourself genius or did you ask ChatGPT?

I'm guessing you bend over and look at the world out one eye and what you see is what you speak!!

Please consider changing your handle name, something like Mr Oxymoron might be more appropriate??
